Prep advice to start engine not started in 4-5 yrs

Hi,
I would go with Marvel Mystery oil, or something with a thinner viscosity to penetrate around the piston walls and let the oil saturate overnight. The next step, I would remove the VCs and rotate the crank assembly by hand a few revolutions to move the oil around the cylinder walls. Next, crank with the starter until oil is seen pumping onto the valve train assy.
As for the carb, if you have a known good carb to sub, then, I would use it. Who knows what crap is in the fuel bowls, as well. Or, plan on rebuilding it. Might want to check the setting of the points, while your at it.
I'm assuming this is going in your mustang and the fuel supply system is in good condition?

Yeah, I know. I think in your heart you knew the answer, though.
What carb do have? If it's an Eddy, you would only have to pull the top squirt some carb cleaner in the bowls, then pump a few times to, at least, flush a little and watch for the squirters to do their thing. It really depends on what kind of residue is in there. If it were just the mus-dauber mansion, then, you could run a vac while you're probing the stuff loose and suck out.
