Ok after experiencing 2nd and 3rd gear feeling like I was pulling a large boat, and running extremely hot, I decided to opt for mechanical guages and redo my timing. My timing was at around 20 degrees at idle, I switched to around 12, which made my idle rough (probably what the cam is supposed to sound like). Anyways I was wondering, what is considered a normal operating temp and what is considered hot? I was getting readings of around 200 degrees driving around a few blocks. Oil pressure is another thing, at idle I recieve around 25-35 psi, and it does increase towards 50 while getting on the throttle...is that ok? (stock oil pump). At what RPM should my engine be idling? Right now its around 550-600. Also when setting the timing, i unhooked the advance set the idle to 12 degrees, and then at around 1600 RPM i get around 32-34 with out the vac advance hooked up....is this correct? It no longer feels like its towing a boat, but i definetly think i can squeeze more power outta fine tuning. Another question, sorry.....At what Rpm/mph should my car be shifting at....1st gear feels very short at WOT, considering I have 245/50/14 and 3:55s in the back now and my speedo is off....

Sorry for being long, Thanks guys

Mike

Your water temp is good from 190-220.

Oil pressure as a general rule is 10psi for every 1000rpm.

Your total advance should be in that 32-34 range at 2500 or more. Does depend on your cam.

Your idle sounds close 600-1000 is good. Again cam size, stall converter speed, etc
