How much could I get for a 2.3L auto drivetrain? Motor, trans, d/s, rear drum to drum? It has about 140k on it. Everything seems alright shifts a little hard into reverse(dont know if thats normal, never drove an auto car). The pinion leaks, just needs a gasket I believe. Thanks.

step one:
take auto trans and tie a rope to it

step two:
go out in your boat or friends boat, heive it over the side (drain it for all those eco ppl) and
tada you got a new anchor.

a4ld's are a peice of crap and should be chucked as far away from your project... t-5 conversion is the way to go... see stingers site he's got a really good info on the swap

he isnt joking, A4LDs are Crap. i wouldnt take the time to install (or carefully remove) one. If you need a tranny I would do a T5, but if you insist on an auto, i am sure somepeople on here would just give you one. I have one in my garage i dont want anymore, but its not worth the cost to ship it.

if you chucked it into the ocean i'm sure it would create a suitable habitat for some correl, like they way they sank old ww2 ships down in FL as a habitat... just my 2cents.

So why dont we all gather up our autos and someone can take them down to florida and make habitats, or we could send them to New Orleans and Texas so they can rebuild their levees with them.

I have a question that is almost the same. I have a 2.3 motor and a 5 spd. tranny, both only have 40,000 original miles and work perfect. How much could i sell them for? It is out of an '89.

the 5 speed is probably worth some cash, but the motor probably isnt, everyone is yanking out the N/A motors in favor of turbo motors. I bet half the people on this board have a N/A motor sitting in their garage. You could eaisly sell the t5 though if the price was right.

I will fess up, if you all don't laugh too loud...

I paid $125 for a usable a4ld, back in June or so. Complete with a $100 engine attached. This was from some friends that do a lot of v8 conversions and race car building. The tranny bolted right in my 89 and has run fine for two months with my daughter driving it.

While searching for trim in a salvage yard, I found a totallled four cyl t5 car and got everything between the engine and the rear end, block plate, flywheel, clutch, t5, crossmember, shifter, driveshaft, wiring, console trim, etc, for $200 even. That would have included the clutch cable and pedals, but I was too tired to pull them that day.

Rebuild on an A4ld seems to be in the $1000 and up area. I may fix the one I pulled out, or, if the one in there fails , I may put the t5 in it.

I bought the engine, harness and computer and trans as a buyers risk deal. If it did not work, it was still mine.

If you want to somehow stand behind it, or can demo it, maybe $300 is max for an a4ld.

Can you get some trim in the salvage yard? I thought you had to go to the red light district. Just messing
