I just bought an '85 GT last night, but when driving it I kept having problems getting it into third. Sometimes it would grind just a bit when I tried to put it in, but most of the time there was no noise, it was just like it wouldn't fall into the notch or something. Other times it would go right in. It did have some sort of short throw shifter in it (owner bought it that way didn't know what brand). I am wondering if it could maybe be the stops on the shifter needing adjusting or is most likely syncros? The clutch is pretty tight as well, but all other gears go in pretty smooth.
