little question. I bought an Autometer Phantom A/F gauge on eBay last week and installed it last night (I know this gauge does little, nothing more than a light show really, but I thought it was cool and I got it for a decent price). The problem is, I fired the car up and the gauge is not working right. Instead of scanning from left to right and back again about twice a second, it goes REALLY slow like one sweep every 3 seconds. Then pegs to "lean" whenever the throttle is even barely pushed. My question is, WTF is the problem?
I hooked it up exactly as the directions from the box, autometer's site, and various how-to's say to (signal wire needs to be spliced into the wire in pin 44 on the ECU which is a gray wire with a light blue stripe). I have gone over everything a dozen times already. I HIGHLY doubt the gauge is defective, because it was new, still sealed in the box, not even any dust on it. The only thing I can think is that the signal wire was not long enough to go from the driver's side a-pillar to the passenger side kick panel (to the ECU), so I used remote wire (small blue wire used to turn on amplifiers for car stereos when the ignition is turned on) to lengthen the wire. Could this have too much resistance or be distorting the signal in some way? I guess it could be a bad O2 sensor, but my car runs fine, so I don't think it's that. Anybody care to share how they hooked up their A/F gauge, specifically how they lengthened the wire, or any other tips?
