Problem with Cobra Brake Install

I installed SN95 Cobra brakes on my 86 Mustang GT. Other than not having installed the moan brackets (which I don't have yet) it is a complete setup from Ford Motorsport 5 lug axles to the correct cobra brake pads. Unfortunately I've been having an issue with the inner brake pads rubbing the rotor when I go around corners. You can hear them scrapping. In an effort to determine the cause I removed the calipers and rotors and checked everything over. I have 2 suspisions as to the cause:
1) I don't have the moan brackets. Could this be the cause?
2) I pulled on the axles and discovered that both have a small amount of play. You can pull them out approx 1/16" more or less (I didn't actually measure it). It is obvious that they have been moving while I drive as there is a clean portion on the axle where it has been scraping on the axle seal. Should there be play in the axles? Was I sent the wrong axles?

I can't speak to the FMS kit, but the Baer runs a pre-load on the rear calipers (as I would assume most rear disc kits do) and they specifically mention that the rear brakes will make noise around corners for about the first 500 miles. My kit does not have, nor does it come with, moan brackets, however, it seems like installing them would certainly help reduce noise in your situation since the calipers are designed to be used with moan brackets.

Also, I would check to make sure the alignment is correct on the caliper to rotor. Sometimes it will be necessary to shim the caliper in order to align the rotor. This is in part attributable to the facts that the tolerances vary on the axle housings and the mounting plate may not be square to the axle. As for the axle movement, it is normal to have about an 1/8" of side to side movement. This has to be accounted for in the alignment of the rotor to the caliper.

Is it just the rear brakes? There is some play on the rear axles. First try the anti-moan brackets.

What did you do about the booster? To get a real M2300K Cobra booster to fit on an '86 requires a LOT of work. I know, I have the M2300K kit.

i dont have them and my car is fine. there is some axle play but i guess it's normal. as long as the car stops im happy

It's right there in the parts list for the instalation instructions bottom of page 2. If you want a copy I can email it to you. And yeah I'd love to install them, but I wanted to look at all of the possible explanations for my problem before spending money. It's never a good idea to throw money at a problem unless you want to go into credit card debt. Regardless, I would have installed them, but the person I bought the rear brake assembly from was kind enough to not include them with the rest of the stuff. Besides as 1991vert says there are people that haven't used them and haven't had any problems.

Okay so someone else already posted the moan brace thing. Sorry I got a little irritated. What I was really looking for was help, not nit picking.

Anyway, yes I did install the correct booster and master cylinder. And let me just say that it required a sledge hammer and a lot of this . I hammered on it for several hours and still could not get enough clearance so I kind of forced the booster in there. I just barley got it to fit and it's wedged in there so tight it might not ever come out. I would probably never install another one again. On a better note, everything seems to work great I just have the scraping problem when going around corners.

I wasnt trying to be the Grammer Police as I suck at it. My point was that they are Braces and not Brackets, so you should not run without them for safety reasons. Sorry if it was taken the wrong way or misunderstood!

When you see the Term Brace it is a good idea to use them, Brakes are such a Vital Safety Item of the car that its not worth trying to save a few bucks.

Wasn't trying to save a few bucks. It was always my plan to install everything correctly. But as I said above they weren't included with the brake parts I bought even though they were supposed to be. I contacted the ford parts department yesterday before posting, but they said the closest ones were in Wisconson (RH side) and Georgia (LH side) (I live in TX) and it would take at least a few days to get them here. Plus, I figured it would be best to determine the exact cause of the problem before spending any money on it especially since I only have around $150 left in the budget for the car this month (as I've already spent a ludicrous amount over the summer piecing this kit together). If I needed new axles or something else but had already spent the money on the braces then I would be sol and the car would be sitting in the garage undrivable for the next month. Since it seems that everything is okay other than the missing braces I'm going to order them on Monday and install them asap.

i stated before i wasn't having a problem. they just started moaning. it's not a high pitched squeal like dirty in the brakes, it's a deeper sound and it only happens going around corners or bumpers usually
