Problem with gears? Or something else?

Lately a problem has reared its head when driving and changing gears.
I hear a sort of gear grind when I happen to shift from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, and sometimes 3rd to 4th. I also hear some residual noise when I am sitting at idle with the clutch pedal pressed.

I'm no expert, but I think it probably has to do something with the gears. I have the original stock gears. Is it time to change it out? And if so, I might as well upgrade them. I drive about 40 miles a day in city conditions. Help, as always, is appreciated.

I assume you are not talking about syncho's grinding at the tranny? If so, your tranny could be a ticking time bomb...First it's a grind here and there, then it's no 2nd, 3rd, and/or 4th gear....If so, it happened in my 96 gt - put a TKO in, and just happened in my Cobra, put another TKO in...
