im having a slight problem getting my car to shift into fith gear. every time i try to shift it feels like its in gear but when u let out on the clutch it just revs up and other times it will shift fine but it usually takes 5 or 6 tries to get it to go into gear.i had a guy at a mustang shop check it out and he replaced the entire 5th gear and the spring in the shifter and it still doesnt work right. if anyone can give me an idea of what might be wrong please let me know.

thanks,
danny

Check the 5th gear synchro. 5th gear is always in constant mesh so replacing it really didn't change much. There are splines on the countergear that the synchro is joind to. When you shift to 5th, the synchro couples to the 5th driven gear and sends power from the countergear to the mainshaft through the synchro. It coule be damaged somehow.

Could also be a clutch issue. Put the car in 4th gear at 10MPH and floor it. Does it slip?
