Problems with Bamachips 93 Octane tune

I've already emailed Doug at bamachips about this, but I know he is a busy guy so I'm sure it will take a few days for him to get back to me. Although I did want to see if anyone could shed light on my problem or have experienced similar problems.

I loaded the 93 octane tune about a month ago, and when I would start the engine up for the first on any given day my rpms would fall really low down to about 400-500 rpm before building back up to idle at 750 rpm. Occasionally it would fall off as low as 250 rpm before picking up. Once the engine had been going through the day it started up just fine, so I never really worried too much about it.

However today I started the car on two occasions and the rpms kept falling until the engine stalled. I reloaded my 91 octane tune, and I have had zero problems since.

Though I did notice the idle is set at 1000rpm for the 91 Octane tune and not 750 as with the 93.

Does anyone know why my rpms are falling to the point the engine dies with my 93 octane tune? Or should I just sit tight until Doug at bamachips gets back with me?

I would just bump the idle up on the 93 tune. How do you like the Nitto 450? I have been very pleased with mine.

Yeah I was thinking about boosting the idle too I might try it.

The Nitto 450s are great and they fit the stock rim just fine (which is the reason I got them)

The same thing happened to me. I run the Predator 93 tune. In neutral (5-speed), revs dropped to 500 or a little below, repeatedly, before the ECU auto-blipped the throttle to keep from stalling. Only once did it stall. Turning the car off and on did nothing. After about five minutes of driving, the idle evened out. No CEL, no error codes. No other drivability problems. I restored the stock tune and took it to the dealer, but they could find no hardware or software issues. I re-installed the 93 tune, and it happened one more time.

I had the 93 tune on for about 5K miles before this occurred. This happened four or five times over a couple of weeks at about 11K miles. I'm now at 16K and it hasn't happened again.

Do you, by chance, have one of the oiled, after-market air filters with your CAI? K&N or the like? The only thing the dealer could think of was the possible "fouling" of the MAF sensor by oil residue, but even they admitted this is unlikely. They replaced the sensor to be safe, but again, it happened once more after I reinstalled the 93 tune.

this happens on my yukon, which has a VOLANT cold air intake. the oil from the filter gets on the mass air. i spray the hell out of it with electronics cleaner, and let it sit over night, problem solved! i might have to try this on the stang.

on my truck it would just kind of make it not start well and run a little rough, but it is a 99 and not drive by wire, much less complicated. it cant hurt, i have sprayed off water soaked cell phones with the stuff and they work fine!

Doug at Bamachips sent me an email back and told me that some cars have a cold start idle problem with the tunes. He is just going to adjust a portion of his 93 octane tune for me, and I will be on my merry way.

Apparently this isn't an odd occurance. Though I will take a look at my MAF, and clean it out just in case. Though I'd be surprised if it was dirty already.

Yeah I can find out the details, but from his brief description he said that he would return the start up and idle portion of the tune back to stock.

i cleaned mine. the sensors were a little dirty looking. this is always a prob with the oil air filters.

same problem with bama chips tune

I had the same problem with 93 torque tune. At a cold start could not take off smoothly without dragging clutch and adding more than usual RPMs. Emailed Doug. No response. Went back to 87. No problem. Can some one tell me if increasing the RPMs at idle did the trick???? Thanks goodness for the forum!!.

careful of the Nitto 450's

Just wanted to let you guys know that the Nitto 450's are MUD/Snow tires and are extremely hard, rubber wise. I actually had a problem with these and completely spun out so be careful...swapped them out for a set of Kumho Ecsta Spt 275/40/17's in the rear and 245/45/17's in the front from tire rack...huge difference. Oh by the way, hi guys, my first post. I'll update my profile.

I knew they were M&S but I really just wanted the wider tire that was close to the same diameter as stock and fit on the stock rim, and to me they felt better than the stockers. I didn't have much luck finding other 255/50-17s, but that was before I started looking at tirerack.com. As for being a harder compound, I agree and I have had a hellacious time hooking at the track with them which isn't much of a surprise.

BTW are you running the Kumhos on the stock rims or did you get a wider rim.

mail order tunes

Here's the deal with mail order tunes - it's a educated guess on setting the MAF Transfer function. some get lucky the first time some don't and need a new tune. The best thing for the best performance is a dyno tune from an experienced tuner. I've tried mail order tunes and they were poop. I would have never even tried mail order tunes if I had really understood how important setting the maf_transfer_function is.

I actually bought these aftermarket Bullet rims off Ebay and they are 17 X 9's all the way around. It Gives me that wider foot print in the rear.

Contact the tuner direct for any issues you may have. Doug @ BamaChip is the best, give him the direct chance to help you out.
This is faster then the internet sometimes.
