Problems with LCA

I just installed a set of steeda rear lower control arms. They are the tubular arms part# 555-4422. After install I drove the car and the rear end was whining and I have a vibration. I am going to reinstall the stock arms. I think that the steedas are a different length than the stock ones. Even so that shouldn't cause this problem.

That is what I was thinking, but I called Steeda and they really didn't seem to want to help. I am putting the stock ones on tomorrow and then I will repost.

find a long bolt or rod (need 2). pull off one side and compare to the stockers. if the rod/bolt fits easily into theboth of the mounting locations, they should be the same length and should not affect pinion angle.

I have these same control arms, and have no issues. Did you make sure to install them with the offset facing the correct way? It's been so long that I don't remember the specifics, but there is a specific way to install them.

I don't mean to say that you installed them wrong, just trying to help.

shouldn't the larger offset (being the thicker part be facing the inside of the vehicle). The side that is on the rear axle.

I installed the Steeda Double adjustable arms and have noticed a little whine from the rear end. They mechanics did turn the arms about 1 degree for better launches at the track and i am guessing that turn is causing the whine..

I wonder if you did what I did with my Metcos? I figured since you had to grease the bushings, I'd grease the faces of the poly bushes so they would articulate better. Couldn't have done a worse thing. The arms have to be installed dry as a bone and then greased afterwards so the control arm pivots on the bush.

The wider part of the control arm should be on the inside.

Finally, did you tighten everything up while the car was on the ground (or resting the wheels on ramps)? Try loosening all the bolts again and retightening. I initially tightened to about 80lb ft but have since done mine up a little tighter than that.

Anyway the groaning I had before is now gone.

one thing you gotta realize is that when your changing out control arms for performance models your gonna get a lil more noise then you initially had. the bushing are much harder which in turn transmit more noise. as far as groans and squeeks you gotta grease those bushings up. as far as tightening the control arms, do this on the ground so the control arms wont bind up.

The car was only jacked up a little bit while I was torqueing them down. Should I get underneath there and loose them up and then tighten them down with the car level? Or put the stock ones back on?

reinstalling the stock ones cured the problem, I even loosened the steeda arms and then retorqued them with the vehicle level on the ground. It still had the problem.

I measured the stock ones to the steeda and they are the same length. I can understand that the with the stiffer bushings that it may be a bit harsher. But it shouldn't make the rearend whine and make the car have a vibration above 80 mph.

Ive got the same LCA's and I havent run into that problem, how loud is whine? I have some vibration but its from the wheels

I need to setup my rearend agian. I thilnk that the stiffer bushings are transfering more noise and vibration

Bolt them in dry and use synthetic grease to grease the nipples - you can get it from BMR.
