program spare key on 96 mustang gt

I was thinking of buying a blank mustang key on ebay, then getting it cut at ace hardware or home depot. Then I plan to program it myself with these instructions:

96-97 MUSTANG KEY PROGRAMMING (MAYBE 98)

Has anyone done it before on a 96 mustang and does it work? I have looked at other forums and some say i need 2 programmed keys to program a new one. Others say I only need one. And i only have one key.

The exact procedures depend upon which version of PATS. Some can be done with no valid keys. Some require only 1 key. Later versions need 2 before the end user can program their own keys.

I believe for the 96-97 MY, the end user can reprogram PATS with NO keys. The procedure takes 45 minutes to perform. So don't plan on making any quick get aways. The procedure in the link appears valid.
