Progress update....broken glass

Well, at least windshields typically aren't as expensive as the other glass on the car.

I've got everything stripped out of my 67 FB too. Nothing left on it except the rear end and front suspension. The only functioning system on the car is the brakes! Sorry to hear about the glass I got my glass out with no problems. But I guess that's because all of my seals where completely dry rotted (hard as rocks). And barely holding the glass in!

starting in 69 Ford went to a urethane ribbon sealer instead of the older style gasket. it is very difficult to remove a 69/70 without breaking the glass. look at the bright side though, even if the windshield was only a few years old they are almost always pitted and scratched anyway. i got a brand new PPG windshield INSTALLED in my car for 150 bucks.

Just in case you need to do this job again sometime, I was told by a body shop that the trick was to use a thin wire to separate the glass from the sealant. The '69s are pushing 40, and most will have had the windhsield removed/replaced at sometime, so odds are the sealant will be fairly new even if the glass isn't.

Use an awl or something similar to push the end of the wire through the sealant near a corner. Then with a buddy on one side and you on the other, slowly saw and pull it around the perimeter of the glass. Once it's cut all the way around, make a second pass. Be careful not to put any weight on the glass that would cause it to reseal somewhere. Then lift the glass carefully from the inside, first from one end then the other. I have had my same glass in and out three or four times and haven't cracked it so far. Unfortunately, I got grinding spatter on it and burned tiny little holes all over. I have the replacement glass, but visibility wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, so I decided to wait until I get ready to re-do the paint to install it.
