Ahhhh...my weekly dose of '81 Hack Job :D

Sweet man! Those little touches are going to pay off for you big time once the car is finished. What other creature comforts are going in to the car that weren't there in '81?

I bought the whole car for a donor. The 81 will have auto-down windows, ABS, traction control, 4 wheel disc, 2001 radio, 2001 air conditioning...most of the 2001 interior.

Here are never seen before photos of Project 81 Hack Job. MY buddy came over the 2nd day I worked on it....yeah the 1st day I took the car from a total driving running car, to what it is when I was painting it....I was a workhorse.

Notice the 2001 in the background drilled in the front and the left side.

did you use the whole front suspenion and k memeber from the 01 as well?

2001 K-frame...but you must oblong the rear mounting holes. There are two on each side that bolt to the body but the spread of them is different than the Fox. This must be done out of the car.

2001 Spindles,hubs, rotors, calipers,lines.

2001 Rack and Pinion with Fox body inner and outer tie rods. The inners on the 94-04 cars are too long, so the outers bottom out on them with the wheels still sticking out. (94-04 outers will not thread onto Fox inners).

Fox LCA's. As they are shorter. 94-04 arms would push the wheel out over 1-1/2 inches past the fenders.

Fox body struts and upper mounting plates.

Steeda Sport Springs 8200...fit 79-04 V8.

It was a mix and match of parts that all went together. I put new ball joints, busings, inner and outer tie rods, motor mounts, rack bushings. I will put new struts and shocks after I drive it. I want to feel the before and after.

Aaron----Thanks!! This morning I took a quick hour before work and taped up the passenger side door harness, and fished it through the door. Tonight I am gonna cut and splice the plugs like I did on the drivers side....but this will be much easier as there is no master control for the mirrors. If it doesn't get too late I will tackle the tail lights harnesses and figure out what I have to do to get them to work.

Kornut---Thanks. I hope to have it done by May. I have all of April to finish up wiring, trim work, and interior. If I have to tweak a few things here or there in May.....(like changing tires/wheels, doing brakes, etc...) I won't be upset.

Although I start my night classes WED and THURS for the next 10 weeks. That sucks, but school is on the back burner, I am so close to getting my Bachelors, it doesn't matter if I get A's B's or C's...I can't change my GPA....

what a project, im NV you on being able to figure all this stuff out

Thanks bro....I have been making many mini progress threads since I don't get to work on it every single day. I'm mostly a weekend warrior with the car putting in about 8-16 hours depending on schedule....keep on the lookout for more until it's done.

Is the auto down window a function of the switch or is it something else?

That would be something actually worthwhile to mod into a fox.

'81 PIMP job is more like it....I can't WAIT to see the final product.

Good question...I actually should correct myself....I used the 2001 door harness with the fox body switches which plug into the 2001 pad no problem. So it is not in the switch. I think it is in a black box under the dash to the left of the steering column. (2001 model)

When I clicked the power lock button before I hooked the actuator up...that box clicked. That box also clicked when I tried the power window button before the motor was hooked up.

So...I believe you would have to tie a newer box into a fox somehow. There is a chit ton of wires going to it though. And the car still ran with all of them unplugged...that's why I'm convinced that controls the door functions.

And..thanks...I CAN'T wait for it to be over!!! So I can enjoy it of course.
