Whats the difference between piggy backed and non-piggy backed?

piggy back attaches to your stock crank pulley. Non piggyback has a new harmonic balancer. It's a toss up about which one is better for your motor. Just use the search feature for that arguement.

I've heard from a few people that they've never had a single problem with their piggy backs.

Though I would go ahead and get the non-piggyback versions when it comes time for me to get some.

piggybacks are cheap, the 5.0 guys eat them up... however their engines are alot more tolerant than our bitchy 4.6's, so there is no real piggyback/balancer debate in their group.

I wanted them, then I started reading the 4.6 related horror stories... now I dont want them, but if I got a 5.0 theyd probaly be one of my first mods.

Horror stories? I've heard bad things with the piggy-backs on a 4.6 but nothing with the non piggy-backs. I got the Steeda's on my car for about 500 miles, should I be on the watchout?

I don't think you have anything to worry about with your Steedas. Those are the best ones on the market to get

I have had my March piggy backs on my car for like 15K and ALOT of 6000-6200RPM runs....NO problems, and NO belt problems.

Piggy backs are better as far as im concerned. They retain the factory ballencer, which > all available aftermarket ones that come with U/D pulleys. All the other ballencers are MUCH smaller than stock, and cannot dapen harmonics as well as the stock unit.

Ill take a few more pounds of weight on the front of the motor, than alot more vibration going through my rotating assyembly @ 6200RPMs.
If I HAD to buy a non piggy back kit, it would be steedas....their ballencer is better than the other companys.

I used to wonder if there might be issues that would arise by bolting on the piggy back style pulleys, but after seeing the sloppy tolerances Ford initially uses when slapping the 4.6L together in the first place, I wouldn't hesitate for a second to run either style on my engine.

Some guys are afraid to run piggy back pulleys on their engine for fear of ruining their bottom end.....fair enough. Because I'm afraid to spend 3-times as much on the other style for fear of ruining my wallet.
