Hey guys,

I just switched up my valvetrain on my build with the following items:
-Anderson N-412 cam
-AFR 185s w/ upgraded springs
-Scorpion 1.6s
-ARP Rocker Studs
-Trick Flow 6.035 hardened push rods
-Ford Racing Hydraulic Lifters

And some extras to help out:
-CompCam push rod length checker tool
-Test Hydraulic Lifter with washers in place of spring.

The hardened push rods were left over from another build. The stockers are 6.027 so these are a tad longer. I originally used the checker tool on my previous setup to get my 6.035" length (those were on 1.7s with GT40s though), but after trying both the stock 6.027s and the 6.035s on this setup, they both *look* fine. The marker trick doesn't seem to work so good on these Scorpion rockers, I can't get it to smudge any markings to compare the two lengths. Does anyone have any other tricks for marking the valve tips? Should I put some tape on the roller side of the rocker to help it make a mark? (i just thought of that now..)

I have provided some photos of the 6.036". Sorry they are a little blurry, it was from my phone. Like I said, they look good, they roll right down the middle, it rotates nice, no hesitation (i know i am well within tolerance of the springs with this cam), but I want to have total confirmation.

Thanks!

Are you using a checker spring on that valve or the actual spring? Once you have a checker spring simulate the cam lift with your hand and really get down there and look for movement across that valve end. Looks like it moved from the pictures, but it would be really hard to tell without being there. Remember, you want little or no movement across that valve end.

Its the actual spring on the valve. Yes, the rocker is a little off center in that pic. I don't have a spring checker, just the adjustable rod checker. I did try putting some tape on the rocker and i got it to make a mark on the valve tip. I wasn't too happy on the marking, it was too wide, I was hoping for a small line. I'm going to see if that was the tape's fault or there really is too much travel going on.

Kinda got a mark to show up with the 6.035", its a little tiny bit above the half way point, not quite as narrow as I was hoping for either... I dunno...

UPDATE - I made an adjustment to my test lifter, i ditched the washers inside and actually used the original plunger upside down instead, I think it better simulated the preload. After using this method, my next test provided a much better result than the one below. My line is thin and just about smack dab in the center, so its looking like the 6.035" push rods are the right fit. The 6.027" were not quite providing a center mark that I wanted.
