Hey guys, let me just give a quick rundown on what my plans are before i ask anything. The Car: 1987 Mustang 302 W 5.0, I bought a pair of Edelbrock Performer Heads that i am converting from Bolt on 5/16 Rockers to 7/16 stud Mount 1.6 Rocker arms.the heads are 2nd hand but im sure they have never been cut so they are original height from Edelbrock. I am thinking to change my Cam out as well to help performance with me spraying Nitrous. Also going to add aEdelbrock RPM Intake for better breathing and a high flow fuel rail.

Now what i realy need to know here is what to do about the Pushrods, do i swap them out as well to say some hardened pushrods with welded balls and if so Can the stock Lenght pushrods work for this application?
The Engine is already a roller motor so im thinking to keeep the lifters.
And as far as a cam what would you guys suggest?

Please I realy need some good advice on this. Also if any one knows the exact size of the Stock Pushrods can also be a plus here.

First off, when using a stud mount setup, you have to use hardend pushrods, or the guide plates may wear on them.

Second, when converting from a pedistal mount setup to studs, the rocker stud base needs to be milled to account for the thickness of the guide plates and rocker stud shoulder, or the rocker geometry will be off.

Stock pushrod specs won't help you, your going to have to get a pushrod length checker, some light duty checking springs and check the rocker arm sweep across the valve stem tip.

Ok lets say i stay with the stud set up and not swap out to pedistal. Are they realy hard to sdjust as i have heard??????? Or is it just hyp.....

Can i not use the spring that are on them already and just use the Rod Cheacker???????

Hardned Pushrods are the way ill go>>>:nice:

And What about Cam???????/:shrug:

Getting a nitrous grind cam could help out a decent amount.

For some comparison, I had a friend who had an 89 GT - carbed 302 with an Edelbrock Vic Jr. intake, nitrous grind cam (not sure of specs, but it had a massive lift to it), built C4, slicks, and a 125 shot. On the bottle he ran consistent 7.50's-7.60's, all from a carb, cam, and spray.

Thanks for all the help. All advice needed here.

as stated above, with studs and guideplates you always need hardend pushrods. and even if everything you are bolting back on is supposed to be the same as stock, i would still HIGHLY RECOMMEND buying an adjustable length pushrod measure tool and checking it. i always check when putting together a new combination.

as far as cams go, it depends on how much driveability you are looking for. id probably do something from a reputable custom cam guy with a billet core, and springs to match.

as far as using the springs on the heads for checking the pushrod length, the length checking tool isnt a real pushrod. if it doesnt break from high spring pressure when you turn the assembly over, itll certainly deflect and give you an inaccurate reading.
