Pushrods - Which way is up?

i believe it's down. The smooth end sits in the rocker cup

Ummm...I need a little clarification here.

I installed mine with the grooved "press-on ball" end UP (in the rocker arm). This is the end circled.

The smoothed end is on the lifter.

Was this wrong??? Car seems to be running good but valvetrain is noisy.

I did it just like you did.

I don't think it would matter if they were the other way around, but this is my gut feeling and is not based upon any facts

I am in no way an expert, but I would think that the ball end would go into the rocker. It doesn't make sense for the ball end to ride the lifter. You want as much surface area on the lifter as possible.

Remember that the valvetrain is going to be noisier with a racy cam and aftermarket rocker arms in it. It's just a given. If it's just noise from the rocker arms, but you're confident that you installed them correct, that is probably just an "acceptable" noise you are hearing.
