putting in 4.10s, a few Q's

I'm about to put 4.10s on my 97 cobra with around 80,000 miles on it. Where is a good place to purchase some gears and also what else might i need to buy besides a mech. gear to fix the speedo? Need to find a good place to buy the FRPP gears as cheap as possible.

From what I hear your better off getting a computer tuner to correct the speedo. Plus you get the benifit of getting abit more power out of it as well.

jeep part# j3167393 is the speedo geer for the 4.10 gear ratio of my 98 with the t-45.......

got my motive 4.10's here..

personally i would opt for the frpp gears. and since your car has racked up a good amount of miles, you might also want to get new bearings, all of which can be found on this page. http://www.mustangtuning.com/rearend.html. and assuming your car is a manual, your better off purchasing a SpeedCal from dallas mustang or brother's performance to correct your speedo.

Why would be buy something he can't use?? He has a mechanical speedo not a 99+ digital.

Where did everyone get their gears? I checked out dallas mustang, brothers, and mustangtuning and there all around 200. I know theres a better site somewhere out there. The 23 tooth speedo gear is what i have to get, also i plan on sticking with FRPP. Would i need to get an aluminum ds?

You don't need to but it is always a good idea. I have FRPP gears but I will also recommend Motive.

I got all my stuff from gefracing, except the speed-cal, which I got from brothers performance. gefracing also offers very complete installation kits, and trak-loc rebuild kits.

speed-cal will work on the mechanical t-45. as long as its a manual.

the 139.99 ones arn't 4.10's. the 4.10's are 169.00 which is still a good price

FRPP (or any genuine ford gear). Others gear sets typically whine some, not always though.

it's a well known fact that speedo gears don't last very long and while they are working they're still off a couple mph's. i'm just saying if he want's an accurate and reliable speedo reading and he doesn't see himself getting a chip, a predator, or something to that nature anytime soon, he might as well get a speedcal.

basically the speedcal intercepts the signal coming from the transmission and sends it to the car's computer with the correct ratio, while taking gear ratio and tire size into account.

Dallas Mustang or Brothers Performance. it's important to know that it just corrects your speedo and nothing else. so if you think your going to do more mods in the future then you might be better off turning your $80-90 investment in a speedcal into a $300-400 investment in a chip or tuner. i plan on getting a tuner later on down the road after i make some more mods, but for the time being thought it was feasible to get a speedcal.

yup. took my time during installation and i've had zero problems with it.
