Putting on new Harmonic Balancer!

Hey guys, im gonna be swapping my stock piece out for a new Proffesional Products SFI approved piece. Last night i worked on it for like 10 minutes and got 2 bolts for the pulley broke loose. today ill break the other 2 loose then pull the belit then take the pulley off. Do you have any tips for taking the old one off or putting the new one on? I have a Moroso puller/installer. Shoudl i put the new one in boiling water for soo long before i put it on? THANKS!

if you have a puller, the job will be easy. Shouldn't be a need to boil it.

You will find out real fast if you need to expand or contract any metal when you go to install it. Romacs seem to fit the tightest (necessitating being put in the oven).

I put neverseize on the crank snout before installing it. Some like to put RTV on the washer and keyway - I dont.

A search in here will reveal a ton of info.

When you take the bolt out don't forget to remove the washer in there too. My FRPP balancer needed to be boiled.

OK, guys i gotta problem. I put the balancer on as far as i could by hand ( not very far) I used the installer and got it to go on some more, but about a half an inch from going in all the way. The problem i have is that i put the shaft of the puller into the crank then the plate over that which butts up against the balancer. then the flange nut goes over that and up against the plate. I put a wrench on the end of the shaft and let it rest up against the water pump, then use another wrench to turn the flance nut. When i turn the flange nut it turns the balancer and crank which causes the shaft to screw out of the crank snout. What can i do about this?

Another question is my bolts that hold the pulley on are too short and wont make it thrue the pulley, spacer, and into the balancer. So do i need the same bolts but just a 1/2in longer? THANKS!

I dont know that I followed, but.........

I had an issue with the different pieces of the install tool wanting to come apart inside the crank snout. I had to put it together on the bench and crank the tar out of the pieces so they would not come apart.

I dont follow you about the pulley. How do you know it wont work if the balancer is not installed yet? The balancer face should be the same as your old one, no?

So the model you bought uses a spacer between the balancer and pulley? If so it still will not change the relationship of where the pulley rides so your stock length bolts should work fine.

I tend to hone my balancers (espeically ROMACS) to the proper spec before installing them, same for the lower timing gear. I also prefer a little antiseize on the snout of the crank.

I don't quite follow what is going on with the balancer as far as installation. But your car is a 5spd right, put the E-brake up and put it in 4th gear.

Well sure you can. But the motor might turn over while you try to unbolt the balancer.
