OK everyone, I'm new to the forum and the mustang world. I just recently got my first mustang about 6 months ago and I absolutely love the car. I got an 06 gt and it came with a k&n intake and pype bomb axle backs. Since then I've added lt headers and removed the cats and as u can imagine the car is obnoxiously loud now. Now before everyone starts bashing me saying to use the search button I already have and none of the threads I looked at had a solution to this. So just curious as to what some of you guys think I should do. I do not want to put the cats back on because I'm trying to squeeze every bit of power out of it that I can. Some options I've thought about would be to either put some resonators in the exhaust before the mufflers or just a whole new set of mufflers. If I go with the new set I'd like to get a straight through design so it wouldn't obstruct any flow.

Put cats on it.

High flow cats cost very little horsepower. What headers did you use?

Also, I can tell you first hand that mounting straight-through mufflers as resonators do very little muffling, they just help "clean up" the sound a bit.

If you're dead set on keeping the Pype Bombs, it's going to be stupid loud even with cats AND resonators. A couple days ago I found some round 1-chamber mufflers on ebay (search Farrow chambered muffler) that might work for a mid-mount, but I have a feeling those could cost you more power than cats.

Most aftermarket axle backs are just loud, and having an off road midpipe only makes them worse, but any axle back with actual mufflers will be less obnoxious than the pype bombs.

I put macs long tubes on it. But before that it sounded great, not too loud but definitely loud enough to turn some heads. Now it's just insanely loud to the point where I don't even wanna get after it any because everyone in a 3 mile radius can hear me and its drawing too much attention. I already got pulled over because of it. But something like a magnaflow won't make quieter and still sound good?

No...it'll clean the sound up a bit and take away some of the rasp and trumpeting, but it sure as hell won't make it quieter.

I ran an off road pro chamber with stock manifolds and Hooker Aerochambers for one day (prior to that I had high flow cats on it), it was so loud it just sounded ridiculous.

This is my car with the JBA's, catted shorty H, Magnaflow resonators and Hooker Aerochambers. It's louder than the video makes it seem but it's right on the edge of what I would consider too loud (especially because I leave for work at 6:30 AM and have to be mindful of my neighbors).

Wow your car sounds great. Mine sounds very similar except the loudness and popping is magnified like 3 fold.

Has anyone ever tried these? They're supposed to be pretty tame from what I've read about them and still a straight through design

Thanks!

Popping is a symptom of no cats most likely. I don't know much about the Vortex, I think it's supposed to be similar to a Dynomax Ultra Flo or Hooker Maximum Flow, but they're straight through with a perforated core and a big case.

Don't know if you can get the Vortex in a pre-made axle back...I believe you can get an Ultra Flo axle back. Would definitely be quieter, the big case has more packing, and that might be a decent option if you want to remain catless.

I went through a few midpipes and muffler combinations before I found this setup which I'm really happy with. You might have to experiment a little.

If you have neighbors than yes.

Also on the 4.6 cars you very quickly get into the "too loud & sounds awful" territory, unfortunately.

Yea it's definitely too loud when every time I go passed 1/3 throttle everyone thinks I'm driving like a maniac and the cops pull me over. But as far as the cherry bomb is concerned I can weld it in no problem but it may be a couple weeks before I can get to it. I have too many projects and not enough time at the moment

I sometimes run Boomtubes (Same thing as Pipe Bombs) with no cats. Very loud. It a parking garage it is absurd. But I get the best gas mileage running those. I'm sure it is because I drive it to keep it quiet (No way to keep them quiet) when they are on.

I have to agree with the parking lot situation. I know all about that cuz when I go to work I have to park in a parking garage and when I fire it up when leaving it's stupid loud. I'm surprised I haven't set off anyone's car alarm yet

I just put some Magnaflow axle backs (no mufflers) on my 2011 Kona GT. Sounds good for me.. Not too loud at idle but sounds devilish when I hammer down.
No radio needed.

Thanks everyone but I ended going with pypes mid muffler setup and I think it's perfect. Nice little growl when cruising around but still not too loud when getting after it. And as far as the pype bombs I ended up using them on another project car of mine

I have Boom tubes (like the Pype Bombs) and thought about trying the Mid mufflers. And it sounds like that may be what I need. Thanks for the update.
