I bought a pair of Pypes mufflers for my '06 GT online after reading many testimoials, some said it they were a nice sounding muffler, others said they are too loud. I thought to myself, "If some think they are too loud, they are probably just right for me..." They weren't. I wish I would have got the flowmasters.
So here's the deal: If I bought these Pypes and was disappointed by the low sound volume, there are probably people who bought flowmasters and were disappointed by their high sound volume... So, here's the deal; If you want to trade your Flowmasters for my Pypes (which are in perfect condition, 3 months old) I would be glad to accomodate. Willing to pay a reasonable price difference.

Are these the pypes violators and what flowmasters were you looking at? Flowmater A/T are quieter than pypes violators. I am not sure about the flowmaster classic.

Also how long have you had the pypes? Axlebacks/mufflers tend to get louder after breaking in.

You can't really get louder than Violators. They're straight through mufflers with louvers for sound shaping. I loved them on my car. You REALLY need an off-road pipe or high-flow cats if you want to get louder. Here's my video showing the before and after on the Violators when I added an off-road pipe. Once I got the off road H on there, it was meaner than all hell.

I agree with above post. Can't get much louder until we recently introduced 'Pype Bomb' axle back this winter. However, in this case i think even the Pype Bombs will not achieve the aggressive sound you seek. Gotta add high flow cats or LT headers to boost the sound.

Thanks for all the feedback. Yes, they are the Violators, and I was thinking like a flowmaster 40... maybe it's not the volume so much as that characteristic flowmaster rumble. I love it! Anyway, I am planning on long tube headers and X pipe, cams and an intake too, any moderately priced suggestions? And how 'bout something for the soft shifting?

You might want to go with the H-pipe with flows or pypes. It will sound better than the X. If you want the X-pipe, then go with a straight through muffler like Pypes M/M, magnapacks, stingers or bassani race.

I think if you like the sound of the flow 40 series you will really like the MACs.

For the sound you want, you definitely don't want a X pipe. They're more raspy and euro sounding, not throaty and rumbly like you want. They also will make your mufflers drone terribly.
