With a C&L Plenum and Accufab TB, K&N FIPK II will I need a computer reflash? Or are these just basic bolt ons. I also have the pullies but have been hesitant on installing them, due to some of the horror stories on this board. It's good to be back and read all the information in this forum. Thanks for all the help.

I have all of those mods but a MAC CAI instead of the FIPK. I have no problems so far. I am sure that it wouldn't hurt to go and put it on the dyno to check your A/F Ratio and make sure it didn't make you too lean, then you that would tell you if you should get a tune or not. What horror stories have you heard with the pullies? Which kind do you have? I don't have any problems with mine.

These are actually pretty simple bolt-ons. I honestly don't think you will "need" a tune, but then again, it wouldn't be a bad idea either just to know what numbers your putting down and get your ignition timing and a/f ratio as balanced as possible. Then again, if you have other bolt-ons you're planning on doing in the near future, might want to wait on the tune till after you get them.

The horror stories I was referring to were some posts here of the crank bolt snapping off in the block. I really want to stay N/A, but since I will be coming back to the states later this year I am looking these two setups from Modular Ford Powerhouse. Either staying N/A and getting Tim to set me up with heads, cams, intake etc. Or just go with the KB S/C.

So basically if I add the TB and Plenum and do not have it tuned I wont break or hurt anything? Thanks

I'm 99.9 perecnt positive it won't. Espeically about the crank bolt snapping. I don't see that happening with any bolt on unless if the bolt on is a 50psi supercharger.

Nah, you won't hurt it. I've got a K&N FIPK-II, Accufab 70mm TB and plenum and it runs like a dream. I'd like to get an AFR reading during a dyno pull to get an idea as to where it is now and would consider a tune to optimize but it's not needed for fear of hurting stuff.

As for the horror stories you hear, there are two things you need to know:

1) Often when you get UDPs you get a long bolt in the package. This long bolt is intended to be used only to pull the new crank pulley onto the snout of the crank. Once it's on and you can get the factory bolt to thread in properly, switch the factory bolt and torque it to specs. Using the long bolt will result in the bolt bottoming in the snout and, as you tighten it all to hell, it will snap.

2) The factory bolt is a TTY (torque to yield) part. This means that once it's used once, it's actually stretched ("yielded"). These are really meant to be replaced every time they're used. If you re-use a TTY bolt you stand a very real chance of it snapping. So, before installing your pulleys, get a new crank bolt or two from Ford and use a new one each time you re/re the crank bolt. Of course, it goes without saying that you must follow Ford's recommended tightening procedure for the bolt.

BTW, ARP makes a re-usable bolt for the 4.6L snout that doesn't need replacement. You can source it through SHM.

If you note these two items, you shouldn't break anything.

So how much more HP do you think I'd get by adding all of those parts? I would think at least 10-15 which I should feel SOTP. I really didn't notice anything from the exhaust but my *ss is old and doesnt feel anything much anymore after sleeping on the ground and cot for a year...lol

Thanks for the info on the UD pulley install. What is this SHM? I got the Steeda pullies and cant remember if they came with a new bolt. If they did I will try and do the install this weekend. If not I will order one of the bolts you mentioned from ARP.

I got 14 rwHP from the K&N FIPK and March piggyback UDPs: about 9 from the intake, 5 or so from the pulleys. I haven't dynoed the TB and plenum yet but expect it's good for 8-12rwHP. I definitely felt each as a SOTP gain.

what the *&%^?? do you have dyno graphs to prove you made 9 rwhp from that FIPK??? b/c if so, im goin out to get one today!! ive just always heard air intake systems were worthless. btw, does the FIPK have a 90* angle curve into the fender for the Air Filter??

I think he does have the dyno graphs or at least he did have them. No, the K&N does not have a 90 degree curve into the fender for the filter.
