I am in the market for a 99-03 GT . I commute and drive alot . I am currently driving an Auto blazer . Soooo...... everyone tells me that the 5spds are more fun to drive , I agree just because all great sports cars are manuals . I have only driving a manual for about 30mins in my life time . I found it to be fun but would be a pain in the ass for heavy traffic . My question is , is there a way to make the Auto more fun to drive ? I don't plan on racing the car but don't want to be " that guy with the Automatic GT " but if a automatic could be better than a 5spd that would be cool . So i thought you guys could throw some ideas at me . Thanks

After driving a manual for only 30 minutes in your life, it seems like a real pain in the ass. However, you'll get used to it really quick and you won't even think about it. Once in a while, during stop and go city traffic, you wish you had an auto, but the rest of the time, you are glad you have the manual.

If you do decide to go with the auto, it's cool because "no one can out-shift an automatic."

There's a few companies that make aftermarket auto tranny's and auto parts, but I really don't know too much about that stuff...

thats just a stupid statement, and a mustang is not a sports car per say. A auto that is set up right will take a manual all day long(for whoever had that thread the other day ). A manual is more fun to drive but it comes down what your using the car for. I've had both and had to sit in heavy NJ traffic every morning with my 5 sp and it sucked.

well, throw a tranny cooler, new stall, jerry mod, shift kit, take good care of it and balance out the shift points and you should spank some sticks.

I'm doing allright at the strip. Auto is a lot more consistant especially when it comes to 60ft times. It's also a lot quicker when, driving on the street, and you need to go like now. Instant downshift and power. A stick is probably more fun all round, but I like my auto too.

That, + a ratchet shifter for fun factor and you've got a mean whip.

Theres a lot of guys around here that know my car and I've heard them say it's the fastest automatic they've ever been in, and brag about how itll snap your neck and shift roasting the tires. All I got is jmod/cooler/ratchet shifter.

Everyone thinks my cars a 5spd for some reason

Auto's: when it shifts, the same as side steping the clutch at 5000 RPM'S everytime with a stick.

FYI

The 1-2 shift @ WOT in the rain will result in wheel spin city.
You have to learn all over again how to drive with a auto.

J-MOD RULES !!!!

Once you get a programmer to pep up the factory sluggish shifting the auto's are alot of fun the drive. If you don't plan on racing a lot and you haven't spent a lot of time in a manual shift I would go for the auto.

Especially since there has been an ongoing thread that is about 10 pages long on how bad the factory manual trans sucks so bad

And if you have a blower, it don't matter if it's raining.....from a 30mph roll try a 3-1 WOT downshift with a roots or KB blower.........wahoooo, talk about a rush!

I have a rebuilt 4R70W with a shift kit, jerry mod, PI triple disc locking torque convertor, and a tranny cooler. It shifts so hard you can hear the servo's pop when it changes gears.

Nice track times

What kind of stall are you running?

Where can I get one?
