I was told that a good way to pick up an extra 30-40 rwhp would be to install a set of cams in my 98 along with adding a custom burned chip and then having my car dyno tuned. Can somebody help and tell me if this is true. Is this worth doing or waste of money. So far I've checked around and found no info on this. Somebody please help!!!

You might get that much in the lower parts of the powerband, but it all depends on the cam profile...You probably won't see that much peak gain, but cams will definately help in other parts of the powerband...

It would be an expensive project for sure. You don't mention what else you have done to your car. Straight cams themselves might not get you that much, though they could, but if you had them done and already have a supercharger then it's surely possible you'd make that power.

well, I'm looking at 2 grand for parts and labor. I was told they generally see a 25-30 rwhp gain with short headers. Now with a custom burned chip I was told they usually see 8 hp gain, but with the cam, they up to 12hp. then an extra 3-5hp by having it dyno tuned. also they say cams they would put would still keep the car smog legal. 2,600 total for everything. That's why I asked, i want to know if this is acurate or am i blowing money down the drain if i do this.

If you plan on installing a power adder down the line then I'd say you'd be better off to wait. It'd be a waste to do it now because if you added a power adder then your cams and tune would need to be changed all over again to give you the best performance.
