question about my 68 289 heads

Im putting together a 1984 302 and bought speed pro hyperthetic pistons. I have a pair of 1968 289 heads and hoping there 58 combustion chambers. Does anyone know if they are. If they are 58 so I can have around 9 to 1 compression ratio.:flag:

Not to hijack, but how much are a set of 69 351 heads worth?

I know a guy with a 69 351W block and heads... He says that they are from a MACH1, but I have no idea how to tell, or if they even came with a 351W as a option.

The 68 heads are most likely the 58 cc or larger, as thats when the 289 morphed into the 302 and smog became a concern. Best bet is to cc them yourself. Set a head upside down on a bench, shim it level, and fill a chamber with water from a measured container, and you are there. That should be close enough to tell the difference.

Are you sure about the E7's flowing less? Stock non Hi Po 289 heads don't flow well at all......I doubt they're better than E7's.

just letting you know that the hipo heads are the exact same as the regular 289 heads with the exception of the valve springs surfaces and screw in studs.

69 Mach 1 was only the 351W engine 4V... it was the first year for the W engine.. the heads will be coded "C9OE" and they are a good head.... HOWEVER.. they WILL need hard exhaust seat and probably Valve guides for the unleaded fuel. so keep that in mind when you buy them... cool?? GT40s will run circles around the C9's and D0's and they are already set for unleaded...
just a thought...
