Today I was cleaning 19 years of crud that has collected on the bottom of my 92 GT. I hate for there to be any oil or grease on any part of my car. I know its a little OCD but it makes working on the car a less dirty. I noticed a probe going into the oil pan. I assume that is for oil temp. My question is two part. can I use this port for a Autometer gauge and does the computer use oil temp to define the intake charge etc?

If this is on the driver's side of the pan, what you're seeing is the oil level sensor. The computer takes no readings from it, but a light on the dash is supposed to come on if you are approx 1 1/2 quarts low.

Keep the factory idiot light guage in place. For what exact reason do you want an oil temperature gauge? Is your car stock or close to it? Oil pressure is a more vital piece of information, and oil temp can be inferred from operating temperature through a regular coolant (water) temp gauge.

Thanks, as wythors sated I am building a race car. Its going to be a NHRA stocker. I want everything to be as close as possible from run to run. That includes oil temp, water temp and trans temp. I will be also running a brake pressure gauge.

We are not allowed to run a aftermarket oil pan so having this port just makes is easier to get the oil temp gauge setup. If this was a normal stret car I would be running all of the stock gauges.

This is going to be a real slow build since I want to have fun at the local track in the beginning to run the brackets and test and tunes.
