Hi Guys,

My '02 GT has about 35,000 miles on it and I've never changed the PCV valve. I looked at it yesterday, and I have the non-heated version. I've bought another replacement Motorcraft PCV valve, and it does not look like the original PCV valve that sits in my valve cover at the moment. The original seems to have a black piece of plastic attached to the top of the PCV valve. The replacement (Part# 2X4Z-6A666-AA) does not have this black plastic piece. The rubber hose connected to the PCV valve will not connect to the new PCV valve without this black piece. It seems as if the original black piece will not come off the original PCV valve.

Does anyone know what I am talking about? I can get pics tomorrow afternoon if nobody understands.

Thanks guys,
Matt

Sounds like they gave you the wrong part.

The black peice you are talking about, is it an elbow?

I'm not sure if the part is correct.

The black piece that fits over top of the PCV fits directly over top of the PCV valve (completely covering what is circled in red). It is a hard plastic. Yes, it is an elbow.

EDIT: I checked with Randy who works with Ford Parts. I have the correct part number.

Hmmm, I have no idea.

That isnt what my PCV valve looks like. I got a Purolator but it is nearly identical to the Motorcraft I pulled off.

Hmmm, it's odd. I feel as if they are missing a piece on this new Motorcraft PCV valve. I'm pretty sure the black elbow I am talking about shares the same part number as this replacement PCV valve.

Replacement PCV come with 2 elbow and 1 cap to adjust to your OEM tubing. I bought mine from Ford last year and this is what i ve got. I bought a T Bird Turbo one.

edit: and you use boiling water to insert elbow on to the PCV )

...and use a clamp, worked ok for me.

Related info in these threads.

If I remember right, I think you need to buy the whole pcv "assembly", which consists of the pcv valve, the plastic elbow, and the rubber hose (to the plenum). There may be a Cobra pcv valve that includes the elbow, but I'm not sure of that.

Man, that sucks if I need to by the elbow and the hose seperately. Seems expensive for a simple maintenance item that should cost next to nothing.

Agreed. It was frustrating, going to the Ford parts counter three times last summer for a simple pcv valve.

Make sure you use a small hose clamp to connect the hose and PCV elbow together if they fit loosely. There is a FORD TSB out on that for the 02's due to an incorrect tolerance stackup. Oil can leak from the hose otherwise.

Thanks guys. I'll go pick-up the extra parts that I need. I'll make sure to check out the tolerance on the tube as well.

Typical ford counter. Dealerships are only good for buying new cars. I have more luck getting the correct parts from AutoZone. Seems like the one in my area has everything in stock, and if not, its 1 day away.

The guy was ok, and he tried. But I think that so many employees are locked-in to computer use that they can't think outside the box. His computer kept showing him a certain part number that wouldn't work, but a little imaginative thinking led to finding what I needed (if I remember right, it was a pcv for a Cobra).

Probably the best thing to do is to get all your Ford or Motorcraft parts from Randy.

My replacement pcv for my 01 gt came with 2 elbows and a cap as Speed545 described above. I used a hairdryer to soften the plastic and it slipped right on.

I had the same problem.....

Ford gave me the wrong PCV valve but no-return policy screwed me over even tho it was their fault.

To get this black piece you are taking about, I put my old PCV valve with the black piece attached into ALMOST boiling water, let it sit for 30 seconds or so, then wiggled the black piece off. In order to get it on the NEW PCV valve I had to use a C-clamp VERY carefully.

Ford really screwed up in the 01-04 years with different PCV valves.

I have an 02 GT Convertible that was originally sold in Michigan, if this helps. NON-HEATED version though.

The proper TWIST OFF PCV valve is part number Ford short: ev257 Ford long: 2x4z6a666aa

I have the EXACT same PCV and the EXACT same problem on my 02 GT vert.

as ghetto as this sounds when i first changed mine i had the same problem. I took that little black elbow and torched it with a lighter and froced the new pcv valve into it and it worked fine for me.

I was lucky with my 99 GT as it was easy to find the right part. What was frustrating was finding the correct PCV for my girlfriend's Escort....there are like three or four versions with two of them sharing part numbers apparently. I had to go all over the place to find the right one.

I never did figure out this problem. I didn't want to twist the black piece off the stock PCV valve in case I broke it ... then I would have been really SOL. I spoke to my neighbour who happens to be a mechanic, and he said not to bother replacing the PCV. He told me if it rattles, just leave it. So whatever - I'll leave it for now and just change it when I get around to it later or figure it out. Such a PITA.
