I noticed a drive line vibration after I stepped up to 4.10's. I though it was coming from the gears. So I took it back to the shop I used & they told me my tail shaft bushing was the culprit.

While I was under the car changing my oil I checked it and wiggled the drive shaft and there is a good bit of play....
The u-joints seemed OK & the gears aren't whining or humming, but the shifter rattles over 2100 rpm in 5th.

So i'm ready to replace this bushing ...but can I get it out with out pulling the trans & dissassembling it? I pulled apart the trans 1 other time to re-seal it & it wasn't much fun.

Any tricks tips?

Thanks
Mike

You might want to first try to rotate the driveshaft 180 deg. on the rear axle and see if that helps. A lot of people upgrade to an AL driveshaft when doing gears because vibration seems to be kind of a common occurance afterwards. The bushing is a pain to get out. You might have to pull the tailhousing to get it off. I've heard of people being able to do that and leave the rest of the trans in the car.

any idea what you will need to yank out the bushing in that scenario?

FWIW....I have had an alumn drive shaft in it & it made no diffrence (borrowed a friends to see if it was a DS issue)

Transmission shops can change out the bushing very easily. For minimal charge. They have a tool that self threads itself into the bushing and then they slidehammer it out. Then they pound in the new bushing with a guide tool. It is a pretty straight forward job. They can do it on a lift in a 1/2 hour.
