Question for those that have done SN95 Brake Swap

ok, so before i start peicing all of the parts together i just wanted to make sure that this is a project i can handle by myself so i found the manual for the M 2300 K Kit online and started reading through it. so now i have a couple questions

first i read that you need a welder to attach the "paw" to the emergency brake handle. do i really need a welder for this? about 2 years ago i replaced the emergency brake cable and don't remember anything called a "paw" even.

also i have about 27 inches of clearance(from the cap on my wheels) on each side of my mustang and i noticed that the axles are just under 30 inches in length. i am not sure when i remove the wheels and drums how much space that will give me but do you think that will be enough for me to slide the axles in and out?

so before i start with this project, is their anything you guys can think of that i should consider?

Yes you will need to weld the pawl. If anything, bring it to a muffler shop, its pretty much just a tack weld, throw the guy a few bucks and im sure he will spend the 30 seconds to tack it.

You might be able to get the axles out with that amount of clearance, whats holding you to the 27 inches?

Thanks Kumm3, so i can take it to a mechanic after i install the rest right? sorry but i have no idea what this pawl is.

also did you get the M2300K kit from FRPP or did you put it together yourself? the list of parts that is on the instructions manual is a lot longer than the list of parts when you put it together yourself so i was a little concerned.

but as for the space limits, the car is in a pretty small one car garage so i don't have too much space, i guess we'll see what happens. i already started buying the parts

you could always take the rear end off with about 20 min of more work

Its easier to do it all in one shot, have the brake handle done the same time you are doing the rest of the brakes.

I pieced mine together, but that parts list will tell you a lot about what you need to make sure you need. Def do the brake booster, MC, and the 3-2 conversion with the adjustable prop valve, and make sure you either disable the stock prop valve, or get the kit that MM sells to eliminate it altogether. I did that on a buddies car with some fittings i found at napa. worked like a charm.

Anyone with a welder and about 30 seconds can do the ebrake for you. It really is very simple when you get there and see what is required.

I have heard the 93 Cobra MC and booster works, but haven't done my research on that. I run an SN-95 unit and other than a little work to get it to fit, it works well.

I'm running the 93 Cobra booster w/ a '95 Cobra MC. I haven't had a chance to have the pawl welded yet, but it seems to grab fine.

obviously your going sn95 rear disc. have you got your rear brackets sorted out? i made custom ones cuz i have a welder and cutting tools and stuff. there are companies who sell them but they want a ton i.e. http://www.northracecars.com/catalog/brakes/brakes.htm

edit: oh yeah, have you got the required e-brake cables yet?

If you haven't read this article, it has pictures of many of the steps, including the pawl that has to be welded for the ebrakes to work without the self adjuster. Click on the orange words for pics:

And you should have enough clearance for the axles. If not, just jack the rear end up and move it a few inches to either side to give you the room.

sweet, that is what i was hoping for. That would kind of suck doing all that workand getting stuck there. I guess dropping the entire rear end would work but i don't have much space behind the car either.

about how long will it take me to do the project?

lol, the bracket is actually the only thing that i have ordered. I am going to be heading to the junk yard saturday. hopefully i can find some good stuff. Thanks though

im in the middle of doing the rear disk right now, these are the most informative things i have found so far:

theres a ton of info i can give you, but lets just say that getting the axles in and out and putting the backing plates on is the easy part

if your not going to buy the mk2300 kit, i would just pull the rear end out. im using 94 cobra rear hoses, and gonna use some autozone brake tube and bend up my own lines.

the trick to getting the ebrake cables off is to slide a 1/2inch box end wrench (i think it was half inch) and then tap it up and over the clip, then the cable will just pull out.

ill be running a 93 cobra mc/booster. ive got a car with a big cam though.

The Wrench trick did not work when I was removing my old Cables, it would not compress all the Fingers, I ended up putting some Small Hose Clamp on the Fingers and then gave the cable a tug and it popped right out.
