Cross lanes Wv
He went to the track today and his best time was a 14.5/95mph. Its a 89 gt with f cam eldebrock upper lower, 1.6 rollers, underpulleys, 70mm throttlebody/maf, 3.73 aluminum driveshaft. He is shifting at 5700rpms, should'nt he in the high 13's. I mentioned that it was probably the street tires, but he said it was hooking up good.. his 60ft was 2.1. Any suggestions of what he could do? On his last run he broke after shifting into 4th the clutch pedal went to the floor and would not come out of fourth any suggestions?

I wouldnt say that 2.1 60' times are hooking good. I have seen plenty of people pulling 1.9x-2.0x on street tires. losing a tenth or two in the 60' will net you an extra 2 or 3 tenths at the 1/4. I think with good traction that combo should see high 13's. How many miles on the motor? stock short block i'm assuming? As for the clutch/tranny...check the cable, if not he probably broke something a little more serious. good luck

I was also thinking that 5700 was too high for stock heads. Im running gt-40's with a little work done to them and i still shift at 5500-5600. Maybe he should try shifting at 5000-5200.

My best is a 14.21/98.8mph with the mods in my sig.
With a 95mph speed, I'd say around 14.5 is about right compared to other times I've seen.

Check the quadrant and make sure that the teeth aren't stripped. Mine would go to the floor when the quadrant went bad. You can usually pull the pedal back up with your foot and limp it to where you need to go.

what was his reaction time? Maybe he could shift at 6000.

reaction time would have no effect on trap or ET

exactly. even with a MUCH better flowing Upper and lower your heads are killing you anywhere past 5000. I have a completely stock HCI, with a dying t-lok, horrid street tires (roadhugger 245s) and i still run 13.90s @ 99 w/ a 2.01 60 ft. I shift at 5200 and i drive it like i want to have a car to drive home. I think i can get 13.50s outa it on a drag radial or 13.80s on a better street tire. Its all in the launch and your shifts/shift points. :nice: practice makes perfect

Tell me why reaction time would have nothing to do with it? 13.9 is fast for no more than you have done.

Reaction time is just that reaction the clock doesn't start untill you start to move so you could have a 30 sec reaction and still run a 10 through a 1/4 reaction is just how long it takes you from time lights drop till car moves
