Question On Aod Shifting Issues With New E-303 Cam

Hey All,

My stang is currently equipped with the Ford Racing 306 340 HP crate engine and a modded AOD.

When the car was stock, it would shift in and out of overdrive with no problem. Once I put the crate engine in, the car now struggles to shift out of OD when slowing down to about 35 miles an hour. It feels like it wants to slip but just keeps going back and forth.

Understanding that a performance cam can lower total vacuum which helps the AOD shift I added a Crane Cams Vacuum canister. Much improved but still the OD issue.

Any ideas what this could be?

It has the stock tv cable. It also has a vacuum line that goes into the trans. Bushings look good. I was thinking of trying an adjustable cable as I heard this could help with the increase in hp but wanted to see if it was a vacuum issue first.

In the 'old' days cams with a lot of overlap didn't produce enought vacume to let vacume dependent stuff work correctly, could this be the case? Not familiar with e cam duration specs or auto trans stuff.
Maybe @madmike1157 can help if he's feeling better

You are going to have to installe a higher stall( 2800 at least) converter. What you did with that cam is move the power band curve up and the stock 1800 rpm converter and stock EEC are not playing nice together. You should also adjust the TV cable with a line pressure gauge to ensure the car is shifting properly.
