Question On Ford Stock Oil Pressure Gauges

I had bought a new 1994 Thunderbird and after a year or so I was amazed at how steady the oil pressure was. Cold, hot, idling, at 75 MPH the gauge stayed pointed exactly at the center of normal. This was the new at the time 4.6 V8. I did some snooping online and found out that Ford had turned the gauge into an idiot light. They were getting complaints that the oil pressure was not steady so on the assembly line they changed the sender to a on/off type and added a resistor on the back of the instrument cluster so when the sender closed it showed perfect pressure. There were several posts from Ford workers who listed the proper sender and how to bypass the resister for a real pressure gauge, job was easy and took about an hour. Does anyone here know if Ford still does this on certain engines?
Thanks
Richard.
