Question - Rim hub size larger than axle hub size

Hello,

I just got some Center Line rims, and I noticed that they have a hub diameter of 3-1/8", while my axle hubs are 2-3/4" in diameter.

This means that the entire weight of the car is resting on the studs.

This is bad, right?

Is there an adapter, which will fill in the gap between the rim hub and the axle hub?

What is such an adapter called? Who sells it?

Edit: The lug nuts are acorn style, if that makes a difference. Also, the lug pattern is 5x4.25".

Edit: I called Firestone and Pep Boys, and they both said that the hub does not bear any of the car's weight, even with hub-centric rims. This makes sense, because it seems that my old hub-centric rims did not really fit tightly enough on my rusty old hubs to really bear any of the car's weight. So, I'm starting to think that the studs are not in any danger of snapping off. The only possible thing that hub centric rings may help, is to center the wheel during installation, so that it will not vibrate at high speeds.

Discount tire has the hub-centric spacers. I think, like you said, they are good for making sure everything is centered but also feel they do have somewhat of a load bearing function also.
