I have a question, I had a magnaflow X pipe and magna catback system put on my cobra back around X-mass time and I have already taken out both cats on them. I had the cats replaced and Ford said it was the MAS that was bad so I did get a new factory one installed. Since then I have not taken any cats out but there it still black stuff like soot inside the exhaust tube. I have never had this happen untill I got a BBK cold air intake system and the magnaflow exhaust system put on. Could it still be a MAS problem? When I start the car you can really smell the gas from the exhaust. What could be the problem with this? it is pitch black in the tubes and if you stick a rag in there u can wipe out black soot. Could it be the MAS again? or the BBK cold air intake? these are the ONLY 2 mods I have done to my 1998 chrome yellow cobra. Anyone have this problem with there exhaust? and if so How could you fix this? there is no moded cpu in the car also. Pls let me know. Now in another fourm someone said my car is dieing but I dont see how just changing those 2 things would kill a motor. The motor has only 66k on it.

if you are smelling gas then you could be running rich, and with the removal of the cats you are not burning off the excess fuel that the cats would normally take care of. the CAI would not do that, but the MAS, not properly calibrated, would. just something to think about.

the cats are still on there I had them replaced because I CO u have emission tests, but these cats have not burned up yet. The old cats that were brand new from magnaflow only lasted a month then I burned them up and when they replaced it the brick that is in the cat was 1/2 gone. But after the new MAS I have not burned up any cats and I still smell the fuel mostly right after I start the car put it in reverse and go u can smell it a bit.

still sounds like you either have a lot of deposits in the block or you rae running rich. depending on how many miles you have you might want to go ahead and start cleaning out the block. i have a 2002 but already have 65000 miles on it. so i dropped about 2/3 a can of sea foam in the tank to hopefully clean out the block a bit. might wanna do the same and see what happens.

I dont think it has alot of deposits in the motor, but I am not sure, it might be running to rich, would be my guess but how do you solve that problem if it is running to rich?????
