question

After a long painful search, here it is...

This is the derivative answer to the equasion of a snow flake's chance in hell of finding a nicer car than the new mustang, so they gave it this identity. Question Answered. The final answer looks something like this
S197 > Most. (Enjoy your ride)

Although I swore on another thread that I'd no longer help anyone out, I'll answer your question.

S-197 is the Ford internal program # for the 2005 Mustang project. S = Sporty Car or Small Car, depending on who you're taking to. 195 is simply a sequential program #. Only a small # of vehicle programs actually make it to production.

Mustang fanatics tend to refer to the different generation Mustangs by their program #s so people know which model year Mustangs they are referring to without having to spell all them out.

The last generation Mustang, 1999-2004 had the program designation SN-95. It looks like S-197 will apply to the 2005 - 2008 Mustangs as the 2009 is rumored to be getting a major update. If true the 2009 Stang will carry a new program #.

Go ahead StangNut, tell me how I'm wrong.

That really was a good explanation.

I could do the search and figure it out for myself, but I figured its easier to ask you... how come you won't help anyone anymore?

Spectre, 94 thru 98 was also SN95.

67&05STANGS is correct, SN-95 was the program # for the 1994 Mustang.

The 1999 Mustang was an update to the 94-98 Mustang. The 1999 Mustang most likely had a different internal Ford program #, but Mustang fans never picked up on it because the 99 was an evolution of the 1994-1998 not an all new car like the 05 nor even a major rework like the 94 stang was.

You may also here the name "D2C" thrown around. D2C is the internal Ford designation for the platform that the S197 Mustang is built on.

Because on another thread someone asked about 2005 Mustang production #s.

I posted the #s but several people jumped on my ass claiming the the #s were BS.
