questions about aode to 4r70w

I found this guide here but still have a few questions. I browsed over it but did not see the mods to make it take 700 hp. Would taht just be extra clutches? It is looking harder than I thought it would be, how tuff is this to do?

Is there really a point in getting the 4r70w over my current aode? It looks like everything in that article is done to both the aode and 4r70w. I always thought the 4r70w just needed to have clutches added then it was good.

How much money am I looking to spend on this project? It is looking like it is way over 1k. I am thinking 750 for trans, 600 for TC, 200 for clutches. then whatever else.

The 98+ 4r70w's have a mech diode and stronger planetery set. What are you wanting to do?

I am just wanting to build a transmission that will handle whatever I am going to end up doing to my car. I don't know if its going to be h/c/i, supercharger, or turbo. I have been trying to read on building it but I get confused on some of it. I don't know if you replace all of the clutches or just add some. I also don't understand what has to be done to the aode, but not 4r70w.

also, how would a street edge TC hold up?

tccoa has a wealth of knowledge..

Yes, the 99- up 4r70w's are built alittle better ( better internals) then the older AODE's ( atleast the early 94's).
You can beef up the trans you have though, it just might end up to be more expensive.

And im sure you know, the 4R70w from a V8 mustang, will NOT work on your 5.0..
You would have to work from your current AODE's case, and build it up, or pick up a 99-up 4r70w from a v6 mustang.

Just find a +99 v6 mustang 4r70w. They already have all the updated modifications like the mech diode and stronger internals. The only thing you have to do is do some minor valve body modifications and change a couple of solenoids and tailhousing swap. If you have the transmission out of the car, then doing those few minor things are super easy, and for a cheap price youd have a transmission good for 600+ hp (although you might want a new converter).

Prolly the only difficult part about the swap is getting your computer to work properly with the new wide ratio gears (will need tweecer or a custom chip)

Do a search on corral.net and all the information you would need is listed.
