Questions about my '02 GT??

I have a bone stock '02 auto GT Conv. So far I've ran a best of 14.5 at 98.
I plan on getting exhaust, intake, and a tuner or superchip to start out. My question is what kind of exhaust and intake is best for 99-04 GT's hp wise?? How much hp can I expect from intake and exhaust?? There's a guy at a local performance shop that said I can expect 25-30 hp from I/E. I'm not so sure. Also will these mods along with a tuner to firm my shifts up put me in the high 13's down here at sea level??

I'd do full exhaust.. from Long tubes down to the catback, go with an off-road midpipe if you don't have to worry about emissions inspections.

As for intake.. I'd go with a 75mm Throttle Body and Plenum, then a nice CAI (not sure which kind is best tho).

And you can order an SCT XCal2 tuner and it'll have tunes on it for you, according to your mods. I'd wait and get the tuner when you're done with intake and exhaust.. Try to order it from Modular Powerhouse if you can, Tim is teh Man for tunes :nice:

Im speaking from experience, check out my sig. Exhaust is a must, but to get quicker times, u must do a stall/gear combo. (3k) stall at a minimum and 4:10/4:30 gears will gt u in the low 13's at 100-102 mph, oh and at least nitto dr's.:nice:

intake + LT headers + mid pipe + catback + tune should be close to 25-30

i find that hard to believe... ive seen gains from a long tube, o/r x setup show around 25 hp, add a decent intake (demolet), an slp loud mouth cat back for max gains, and a tuner(which normally give 5-10 on a stock motor.... i would say you would be looking at a comfortable 30-40hp at the wheels

I agree, some of the best mods again for the car are..

Full exhuast:
Long tubes, nothing else
X pipe
Whatever catback you wish for sound

If you have an auto, get a stall, and a tranny cooler will be needed for that as well

GEARS are a must. 4.10's, nothing less. Gears will be the best mod you ever do to your car. If I would have done it all over, I would have done this first.

The intakes are iffy, and some say they are worth it, others say save your money. Accufab plenum and throttle body and a CAI, demolet or JLT are some of the best stuff you can get for that.

Stay away from the chips, get an SCT Tuner instead.

i was only talking about a CAI (not TB/plenum/aftermarket manifold)...

1st i would recommend a short shifter and practice. You should be running a 14.1 stock, which you're close to, and with more practice will be below that. :nice:

Next if you are hardcore....some Comp or VT stage 1 cams will net you at LEAST 20rwhp with gains up to 30rwhp in some cases that i've heard. They run about $500 + labor for the install. By far the best bang-for-your-buck mod.

But if you want to be more moderate and install some simple mods yourself, i would recommend a midpipe X or H (your preferance) and a nice sounding cat-back.

1st get the shfiter. Seriously get an MGW shifter, you'll love driving your car more :)

Well I'm trying to get modifications while keeping my warranty. Would longtubes void my warranty?? Also what "specific" intake and exhaust will give me the best hp gain??

You wont get a real good answer on which specific intake and exhaust would give you the best HP Gain. Intakes, I'd stick with JLT and Demolet. For ehxaust, do a search. Pretty much go with Longtubes, a high flow mid pipe and a catback. I dont think any one exhaust combination is going to yield you a bunch more HP than any others. Its all about which sound you want and build quality of the exhaust.

Long tubes wouldn't on a GT vert he needs to go with shorties if going that route.
If I did all my main mods over again I would go:
1) Tri-Ax shifter
2) DiabloSport Tuner
3) Gears 4.10
4) 75mm BBK TB/P and
5) K&N FIP II Gen
6) Cobra R, clutch

This way you would not need a speed cal. I did because I did gears 1st, doh!!

Exhaust is almost stock only mod there is flowmaters 40's I am thinking about some shorties headers though :nice:

What!?! You do know that our verts have the same engine as a coupe right? :p Unless I misunderstood what you're saying my vert would respond just as well to LT's as a coupe would... From extensive use of the search button here on LT's, Longtubes yield the best gains in HP and torque over shorties.

Yes I know we have the same engine and yes the preformance would be the same :p
I am talking about the actual fit on the vert I believe the subframe connetors would be in the way of the pipe.

Off road X, Gears (3.73+), tuner (excal 2), Also invest in some drag radial (Mickey Tompson ET streets are the best). These mods should put you well into the 13s.:nice: A good CAI will also go good with the free flowing midpipe, but I think you'll reach your goal without it.
