Questions about my 94 mustang mods and upper and lower intake and such.

I have a 94 5.0 mustang. Recently I have done a pro 5.0 shifter, 3.73 rear end gears, K&N cold air intake, hardened pushrods, 1.6 roller rockers, roller lifters, trick flow stage one cam, valve springs, and other slight mods.
Now, my next step is to get a nice set of used gt 40 upper and lower intake with the inlet adaptor, followed by 24 pound injectors, BBK throttle body, and a new maf. Now the question is, I am not sure what size throttle body would be best, or if a 90mm Ford Lightning MAF would work, (b.c. the MAF would be free of a friends vehicle.) I also have an oil pan leak through the gasket and can't decide if the rubber gasket or cork gasket will work best. Please give me any input you have on the matter, or even better ideas. I am only 18 and appreciate any information ya'll can give me.
Thanks!

leaving the stock heads, a 65mm throttle body will be plenty. if a set of heads is in your future though, pick up a 70mm and save the money later. also, to make use of the lightning maf, you will need the wiring harness for it as well. also, a tuning device or chip will be necessary for it to work right.

A giant MAF may cause idle issues as the air velocity through the metering tube will be very low. MAF's work by measuring the resistance difference between a heated and un-heated wire. The more air that flows across the heated wire, the cooloer it becomes and the lower its resistance. Too low of air velocity and the resistance will be very close to engine off conditions. With a 70mm TB, I would use a 75 - 80 mm MAF.

Numero uno post ... Welcome to 94-95 :SNSign:

Here are my thoughts :D

With the stock heads in place you are not gonna exceed the need for 24's.

I'd go for a PMAS 80mm shorty maf and just run it in cheat mode (no tune needed) along with a set of 24's.

You stand a decent chance of not too bad drivability and the load may not be all that far thrown off.

The cam may throw a kink in things but you will just have to wait and see.

You can upgrade to a larger tb but you will not get much of a gain. IMHO, the tb mod will be very inefficient for you due to the E7's holding airflow back so much. If you find a smokin deal on a tb then yes ... but ... other wise ... that is one mod I'd put on the back burner for later.

The ability of the oem tb is way under rated. Look at the sig and see some info along those lines.

You seem to be looking for good deals on used parts.

If by chance you get a good deal on an aftermarket intake and go with the SN elbow ... do not use the Edelbrock elbow ... go for the TFS elbow.

btw ...... I like the rubber pan gasket over the cork

Good Luck and keep us in the loop about your progress.

Hey guys, thanks or the amazing information. It really helps a lot. I have just ordered a used ported and polished gt40 lower and ron anderson downs upper intake for 350.00. It should be here Tuesday or Wednesday. Next are 24 pound fuel injectors, but Ford went up about 100 dollars so I'm trying to find a good deal. I can get a new BBK 70mm throttle body for 190.00 and i can't decide if I should go with a 75mm or 80mm MAF or what kind or even how much i should spend. I found the polished intake elbow for 88.00 and i'm not sure if I will need a chip and a tune afterwards. If you guys know of any better prices or have any more of this awesome advice, again it would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!:SNSign:

If you are thinking about used ProM maf's .......................

Take a pass on the 75mm bullet

You get much more quality from the 80mm meter
or
the older 77mm metal housing meter

both the 77 & 80 share the same quality electronics

Yes, but with the 80mm maf, do you need to get a tune? I plan on getting one eventually, but a good tune costs so i'm going to wait for a little bit. Grady, I also noticed you said i can run the 80mm without a tune in "cheat mode". What is cheat mode?
Thanks!

What do you guys think about C&L 76mm MAF or 24 pound Ford Racing injectors. I can get them for 389.00...i know thats not the best deal out there, but the current 19's could be causing a major drag, and I'm just going to buy new ones. Also, I should be able to use the stock fuel pump, correct?
Thanks.

Please ..............

Create a sig and be specific about all your mods

This will help everyone so very much!

Then tell us your plans for the Stang.

How can one give advise with out being afraid of leading you down the wrong path without accurate data for now and later.

I can say this for sure ... the oem stock pump could peter out sooner than you might think and all the more so if you got a lot of miles on the clock. It just can't provide a lot of volume.

So i tried to create a sig...i think it worked, but i'm gonna post so i can see if it shows up. But anyway, just so you guys know..I went with the BBK 70mm throttle body, ron anderson downs upper intake with gt 40 lower..ported and polished. The 76mm C&L MAF is on its way along with 24 pound injectors. I'm not sure if i need the adaptor elbow like you do with the upper gt40 intake, so i guess i'll figure that out when everything that i ordered gets here. I appreciate you guys helpin me out on this, I'm learning by the seat of my pants here, and I'm sure I will be posting a whole lot as I'm putting it in. Thanks for your help so far:)

I'll let everyone know more about the downs intake when it comes in tomorrow so I can look it over. Everything is on its way, and I'm hoping to start it next weekend. I don't have time to work on it during the week or on Sundays, so it might be a two weekend project. I'm looking into the new sct tune instead of the diablo, so no telling how that will go. I'll keep ya'll posted as it all gets thrown together.

i wouldnt recommend any MAF other than a Pro-M 77mm or 80mm meter. Im sure many others here will agree with me on that one.
