So, how well do they work? I'm very interested due to the fact that I'm a 17 year old kid who is entering college in 6 months and paying out of my own pocket. Are they really what they are advertised? They sound intriguing. Please, everyone post your opinion. I mean EVERYONE!

I say no, but that's my opinion. I haven't seen any soild proof that they're worth the cost. We'll have to see how RIO's car does this spring on the dyno and track. If it were me in a tight money situation, I would pick up a set of GT-40 P heads and get those worked over at a local machine shop. Those heads and a decent cam and intake have been proven numerous times to make some great track times. The best I can think of is DarkPony on corral with P heads, Anderson cam and a Trick Flow intake ran a 7.9 in the 1/8 which is like a 12.3 or so in the 1/4.

Just my two cents.....this is going to be one of those threads.

I really don't think your going to get a real big turn out on the replys my friend. The "Thumper" subject has been beat in the ground ALOT!!! There are some mixed feelings on those heads. But I'll do my best to help you out with what I have read from the "thumper" battles. You are going to college so you are on a tight budget. I would say, from reading on all the posts, that they are a good budget buy. Always shop around for the guy who wrecked his stang or is in the middle of a divorse of course. There is controversy over the amount of PEAK power you can gain from his heads. I have not had first hand experience with these heads. I'm just feeding you the info that I have read off of here. I'm sure that everyone will agree that an improvement over stock is better than stock. I seriously considered purchasing a set for myself until I ran into a killer deal on a set of TFS. IMHO, if your going to be going to school for awhile and you know you won't be running into alot of money soon. Get em. If anyone can fill in spots that I left out please do. The Rolling Rock is having it's way with the brain cells. Hope this helps you out some, Keith

From what I have seen the heads ports are a bit larger and there is bowl work, now they will still be e7 heads but I think the power is close to that of a stock gt40 setup around 25-35hp gain. If you factor in the purchase price of gt40 heads 350-450 avg. going rate (well I paid 400 and see them going for close to that, but I have seen them for 300-) you are close to the thumper e7 heads and thats with a 5angle valve job and new good springs (I just paid close to 200$ for a set of comp springs) and a overall great clean up. In fact a bud home ported his e7 heads with the help of a powerheads web instructions and the exh port ended up the same size as my stock gt40 heads.

Its your money and your car do what you think is best for your goals.

I think your money would be better spent on GT40P's. Cheaper & better than any ported E7 I can think of.

Actually most long tubes and shorties that are not flanged will basically work. I would opt for P's if money is tight.

I'd opt for the P's

use the search function and look for THUMPER here in the 94-95 section. Then sit down with a bite to eat and a drink and go at it... you have LOTS of reading in front of you. As was said the subject is beaten to death, you will not find any answers here that haven't already been covered like 10 times. Good luck.

So are the gt40 heads going to ahve a different gasket and everything also? I mean, if i could port my E7's to the gt40 size, wouldn't it still be even cheaper?

Size isn't the point so much as flow and velocity is. Either way, you are looking at $50 for new head gaskets, $25 for intake gaskets (felpro 1250), and new head bolts which can range in price from $60->$100.

Hmmm, i think i'll stick with just touching up my stock heads for now then... kinda have NO money, and a dremmel for that matter! By the way, anyone want a set of done up E6's? I had to practice! I give credit to thumper for the bowl work though, I'm scared just widening my exhaust side to match the gasket!

There is pleanty of meat there in the exhaust.. just remember the flow is at the top!! Just round and shape the lower part of the exhaust port!! and smooth out the short radious, on both the intake and the exhaust, smooth the sharp edges off in the bowls and rock!! when in the intakes, even though you "open the intake to gasket size" the restriction is at the push rod bumps!! So open them up also!! Take your time and remember your not a professional and try NOT to get too creative!! you can pick up 15-20% on the intake and more on the exhaust!! Oh yeah... buy a dust mask!!

I know what you mean about the push rod bumps, although, like i stated, i mainly played with the E6's, just to get a feel for them. I think i did pretty well on the exhaust side, but like i said, the intake scares me.
So thumper.. not to steal any secrets from you or anything, but do you smooth out the intake really well when you P&P? Or do you leave a bit of the bumps for "turbulance" I don't know the difference it would make, especially for fuel injected. I know carberated it would probably be better to leave it a little rough to help atomazation, but what about FI? Thanks again!

I take the 5th on this one....

Actually, if your on a budget, and you worked your E6s, then I'd be scamming for a set of Ps....work them over and you should be impressed with the dif....

This is getting out of control. There are plenty of options out there for heads, cams, etc. You might say that is why baskin robbins has 31 flavors to satisfy everyone.

Thumper, you can satisfy me and everyone with solid proof of a 12 sec. 94-95 with your heads. Actually, I think you should start your own race team with a 94-95 and shut us all up. You can go under "Bend Over Racing", because until you prove what you are saying that is what you are doing to your clients.

Ya dude...i'm callin you out....gonna make you eat those words... Gotta stick up for Thumper, all things aside Mikes a cool guy who'll always pitch in..

Paul..don't worry, I'm gonna have video for all to see.... Actually its just some friendly competition...Charlies an ok guy for sure..I just like jacking him..

Lets see...i got some 24s going in, a 93 Cobra with the Fox TB set-up, a MSD Pro-Billet and some 373s...that should add some "nut" to it...The Explorer worked good, but always has a sweet spot for the 93 Cobra, with the Fox swap I decided to switch...
