Well I have recently purchased a Fox Body after always wanting one. In the 3 months that I have had her I did mostly tune up stuff (MSD Coil, cap, rotor, plugs, Ford Racing Wires). On the performance side I have done a BBK H-pipe and some flows, a Steeda Tri Ax shifter, a McCloud dual friction clutch (not by choice), and my underdrive pullies are on thier way.

I ran her just like that, mostly stock and ran 14.5s with a 60ft of about 2.2. She had more in her but the traction was a major issue. Also that was with driving a standered for about 2 months, so go me.

Now I am wondering what would be a good start to gain some traction. I know I will be getting some drag radials, but not sure what kind. I want some that will stick very well street and strip, not some that will kill me in the rain. I guess I will leave it at that for now, here are some pics...

nice looking car. as far as traction goes. i would start with some upper and lower control arms. there are a wide variety and a wide range of prices. just pick one that suits your budget and get them. subframe connectors will help keep the car straight and keep it from twisting after launching it real hard a bunch of times. as far as drag radials go i would get the mickey thompson e/t streets. they seem to be a really good drag tire and are street legal. as far as drag radials that are good in the rain...that aint gonna happen. im sure there are some that arent bad in the rain but none of them will be like a regular street tire. good luck

Those are decent times! A pair of DR's will put you in the 13's without a doupt. Just get the 60ft times below 2.0. Nitto DR's are as good as an all season tires in the rain. At the track it will take a few runs to figure them out but they stick pretty good. They gave me a 1.8 60ft with basically a stock motor.

Nice times for a car with those mods, good looking too!
DR's will definatly help out the 60' times, but with more traction you will want to buy a fw items that will help stiffin up the chassis and body.

I have the Nitto's on my car and they handle fine in the rain. I haven't had a chance to test them on the track, but they seem to hook really good.

yeah,i'd go with m/t et street radials as well, my old car, a 95 vert, went 1.72 60's just with a set of dr's and some prostars, bone stock suspension. it would wheelhop a lil but then it would hook and go. also if you want to save money just go with a good set of lower control arms, as they make the most difference. also u might want to consider getting someone to weld your upper torque boxes as im sure your car has some miles on it, that way they don't tear up when you launch real hard on dr's. the mickeys are not so good in the rain however, but not nearly as bad as driving in the rain on some slicks lol.

I've been looking at those M/Ts and I can tell they wont do much in the rain. I will probably get some of those or the Nittos. And yes I am keeping the Ponies now, was gonna get some Cobras but I am starting to like them. I'll probably powder coat them. I fixed the headlights myself with sand paper and some wax. But I am probably gonna get some smoked headlights. Thanks for all the info though guys.

I am deff getting S/F connectors and some control arms right after I get those drag radials.

Oh yea while I'm here how hard and what will I require to remove that damn smog pump for good. I know something needs to be plugged in the back of the heads right?

Or 5 minutes with a rotary buffer and some polishing compound. Mine turned out great!

I used some wet sand paper and then I waxed them, ghetto, but it's cheap, and works great haha.

That was pre-cleaning, afterwards the left one looked just like that one. So did the other smaller ones.

Sorry for double post but I will be getting my underdrive pullies Friday and I have some questions. Before we install I will be getting rid of my smog pump. I have no cats, and a BBK OR H PIPE so I will have to plug the hole in that, my question is how and with what. Next question is the back of the heads, how would I plug those? Also does anyone know what belt I would need after pullies and smog pump delete? I know I could measure it but if you would happen to know I could buy it in advance. Thanks in advance.

i used old spark plugs and snapped the white part off.as for the tube that comes out of the h-pipe i used a piece of tube and put a bolt in one end and clamped it tight.do a search on belt length with smog delete you should come up with some info.good luck and nice pony! phil

I think it was 96 or 97. Thanks for the info Pony Boy!!! Looks like I'm finally gonna clean up my engine bay by trashing this thing!
