Questions concerning pinging and MAF.

The other day I pulled my MAF sensor and cleaned it with some alcohol and Q-tip. Let it dry and put it back together. So today I go for a drive and notice some pinging under light load.(I run only 93-94 Octane).I have fought this before,but seemed to get better with my new performers.I backed the timing down to 10* BTDC,It was only at 13* and i still am getting pinging.I have replaced the IAC,TPS is set right.I am guessing it is related to my MAF. Can I disconnect it and run the car to see if that is causing my pinging? Or is there a way to test it to see if it is working correctly. It is a Pro flow meter.

Ok here is what I did.I unplugged the MAF and took the car out for a drive. Of course the power was down a little, but I got no PINGING on hills or anywhere. The car even ran smoother, no low speed bucking or jerking at all. I am wondering if this thing is causing my lean condition on the Dyno at low RPM's I was at 18:1 until I reach about 2600rpm and then I go to 13:5.the rest of the way up the RPM range. The MAF is calibrated for 24's and I am running 30LBers. I had called Pro-M before about this and they said it should not be a problem. Here is a pic it is not very clear though. How can I tell what MAF I even have? The tube the meter sets in says PRO-M on it and that is all. On the bottom of the meter there are some numbers and one of them says 70. I wonder if this is only a 70mm meter? which I would say is too small. I would think I would need a 80mm for sure.

Your MAF is calibrated for 24lb injectors and your running 30lb injectors? Do you have a new chip or tweecer to change the settings because you need a maf calibrated for the injectors.. unless for some reason the 30's use the same thing as 24's

My thoughts exactly. I am going to have to invest in a Tweecer and get this thing dialed in.It is way too lean at the bottom.18:1 till 2600 has got to be adding to my pinging.and I think I can adjust my A/F and timing curve with the Tweecer. Yes?

If your not using soem sort of tuning device to dial everythign in, you need your maf calibrated for the injector your running. I run 30's and a 24lb callibrated pro m 80mm, but I use a pro m remote optimizer that allows you to play with the maf voltage to get everything to work. IMO, its better than sending it back for a recal. You can change idle a/f and WOT a/f. They give you appx starting point for setting the 2 dials.

With the tweecer you can change just about anything in the cars computer to what you want.

How about a EEC tuner? Are they compatible as compared to a Tweecer? I have a chance to get one reasonable.

u need to get that thing calibrated correctly....

....unless maybe if your running a Cobra ECU??...i know the Cobra runs 24#ers but its MAF is calibrated for 19's....idk if it makes a difference wheb you upgrade though....

Its not callibrated for 19's, its got different electronics than a GT maf.

the Cobra uses the same MAF as the GT...the Cobra ECU is programmed to compensate for the MAF calibration....

straight from the FAQ at the top of the page


"the 94-95 Cobra (and GT) came with a 60mm throttlebody, not the 65mm alot of people believe it to have. The 93 cobras came with a 65mm.
Although the 94-95 Cobra came with 24lb injectors it still uses the same MAF (mass airflow meter) as the GT. The Cobra specific computer compensates for the 24lb injectors."
