yes the 94-95!! you keep the same track width in the front too. 96+ sit 3/4 out more on each side

I have a buddy who is converting his 89 Saleen to the 94-up spindles. I have always heard to use 94-95 also but never knew why. In one of the last 5.0 mags they featured a car that they were putting a kenny brown k-member in and they were saying that the only difference was the way the tie rods mounted. 94-95 had a "upward" angle and 96-up were flat. Kenny Brown recommended the 96-up. The article was done at Brads Custom auto in Seattle. I talked to them and they confirmed this.

I think 94-up spindles will be plus 3/4" over a fox spindle. I don't think 96 up is 3/4 more than 94-95. If they were that much wider than 96 up cars had a 1.5" wider front track than 94-95.

Any help clarifing this would be great!

A cheap way to go would be use the lincoln discs up front and Ranger 5 lug axels in the back. This way you still have the stock rear width. They sell brackets now so you can bolt late model disk brakes on with the stock length axels. This way It's alot easier to get rims to fit on the back.

Saleen wheels in the rear for fox body's had a different offset (had less of a lip) than the front rims due to the wider rear axel he put in.

My buddy is selling his wheels off his 89 Saleen if anybody is interested.

in '96 the spindle was changed and that is where the extra width (3/4" per side) comes from, the '94 and '95 spindles had the same offset from the balljoint as the fox so the track stays the same. The extra width (1" per side) on the '94 and '95 was all in the A-arm. The SN-95 balljoint will press right into a fox a-arm so there's no problem there.

You will probably want to stay away from the Lincoln disks on fox hubs simply because of wheel choice. The hub cap is much larger than on the SN spindle and won't fit in a lot of the factory 5-lug wheels.

In the rear you can use the ranger axles and drums, or the motorsport/FRPP kit, whatever floats your boat. The SN rear breaks can be retrofit pretty easily using the offset caliper brackets from http://www.northracecars.com/catalog/brakes/brakes.htm]here and either cobra or GT disks, the calipers are the same.

As for the spare you can get away with a standard spare even with the Cobra brakes if you don't mind a little extra work and have the same size wheels front to back. You just have to put the spare on the rear and move a rear wheel to the front.

So 94-95's had different control arms that were 1" longer than 96 up control arms?? I guess this is what I needed to know. Thanks

Ok, so if you want all the data on SN95 spindles follow the links-

http://corner-carvers.com/forums/showthread.php?p=89719#post89719

Using the '87 - '93 Fox GT as the baseline, the '94 - '95 SN-95 GT lower ball joint moved 20mm forward, 27mm outward, and 1mm down. The wheel center moved 17mm forward, 23mm outward, but is the same height. The outer tie rod end is moved 20mm forward, 41 mm outward, and 4mm up.

Comparing the '96+ SN-95 to the earlier '94 - '95 spindle, the lower ball joint moved 1mm rearward, 5mm inward, and 2mm down. The wheel center also moved 1mm rearward, but is the same width and height. The inner tie rod end is the same fore/aft and width, but moved down 28mm.

It's pretty easy to see the 5mm (0.20") width difference between the '94 - '95 and '96+ spindles here (the lower ball joint is 5mm inward on the newer spindle, meaning the wheel center would actually move outward 5mm when installed on an earlier vehicle).

One can also see that the '96+ spindle would require a 28mm (1.1") shorter bumpsteer spacer than the earlier piece.

These threads should clear up any questions on SN95 spindles and track width.

MTMMAN has posted a couple of valuable links. Corner Carvers is a fantastic site that is a huge resource for suspension, brakes, HDPE and road racing.

Here is a link to their Wiki site. This is jammed full of good stuff
http://corner-carvers.com/wiki/index.php

Use the search feature on this site and you will find tons of information.

A little warning for those not familiar with Corner Carvers Forum. These guys are hard core and treat newbie’s with stupid inane questions harshly. You do not need to be a member to search, read, and learn. If you decide to sign up and become a member, read and adhere to ALL of the forum rules. I have been a member there for some time and have never posted. Haven’t needed to post any questions because I have found what I needed by searching and reading.

Since we’re talking about C-C here’s an interesting link for those of you considering purchasing something from Granatelli

Thanks Dane!,

That clears it up!! So 96-up spindles actually move the wheel out 5mm or .2" more than 94-95.

Since it is not a real saleen, I would grab some 94-95 spindles and rear axle and throw some 94-up cobra brakes at it. BuyFordRacing.com has the front brakes for 309.99 including stainless lines. Then maybe top it off with a set of 18x9 saleen wheels? That would be sweet....

What rear should I get? 8.8 or 9" I want the correct width to run the same offset wheels and tires.

If you want to run all the same offset, grab a 8.8 from a fox, and a couple ranger driver-side axles. This will keep you at a stock width. For brakes, run Cobra rears with the North RaceCars bracket on this page:

First thing welcome to stangnet. Second is why are you making a 4 cyl. into a saleen look alike? Are you looking to set up a turbo 4cyl, cause that would rock.

Peace

After reading about the SVO a turbo 4 sounds real cool. Alittle bit SVO, alittle bit Saleen.
