Quick Cobra Brake Question

My calipers came in today and something is amiss. One of the calipers is a reman Cobra the other seems to be brand new and does not say Cobra on the side. Regardless they are both PBR calipers, and the dimensions are all the same. The new one came with two pins and the reman one came with one pin. Did they forget to put a pin in or did they give me an extra one? The one side has 17/64" holes drilled in it. The other side has 3/16" holes. It seems to me like two should go in there, but only one side of the pads have holes big enough for the pins go through. Then again the fingers on the pads were all bent and I had to run a drill through the big end in order for the pins to go through.

I can't think of anything that uses this style pin setup so I'm not for sure.

are you talking about the pin with the circ clip on the end? if so my calipers only have 1 pin per caliper. as far as it saying cobra....if youre spending all that money i would want them both to look the same so i would send them back...but thats just me.

Yeah that's the one. I was kinda disappointed about them both not saying Cobra but it's not like it affects the performance. I might ask them about it...

Are the castings the same? Soulds like you got a Mach 1 calipers, and a cobra caliper. The Mach 1 has 40mm pistons, but the cobra caliper can have either 38 or 40mm pistons. Important to have the same castings. The difference is the 38mm units have ribbing around the piston bores while the 40's are smooth.

Also, banjo bolt thread pitch changes happened over the years, so make sure they are the same.

No, I bought these from Advance Auto. The castings look almost identical, and both have the same two patent numbers on them. I wish I could upload a couple pics but my BlackBerry's internet is down. I'll try and upload some pics later.


Tomorrow I'll go to Advance and tell them that the one is a Mach 1. I mean it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that one says Cobra and the other doesn't.

Someone with a Mach 1 could order cobra calipers and stick their mach 1 calipers back in the box. The assembly line worker rebuilding the calipers isn't gonna know the difference and it's sold as a Cobra caliper.

Yeah I know. I kinda want them both to say "Cobra" on them tho.

EDIT:

Went to the parts store and explained my situation. The guy said "oh I can see the difference in the pistons". He ordered another one and told me to exchange it for a different one when it comes in on wednesday. I dunno where he had to get it from because Kansas City didn't even have one...
