TRWXXA said:The metal thing is the heater core inlet restrictor. It's purpose is to reduce the coolant pressure inside the heater core at high engine rpm, and extend the life of the core. Keep it. New heater core hoses don't come with it, and you'll want to have it if/when you replace your heater core. It's a $16 - $20 part, believe it or not.
