Quick...Need suggestions on which sparkplugs I need for basically stock 93 5.0 LX...

I think it is about time for a tuneup...some I'm looking to getting some plugs and I have 3 stores in my area that have them...and they are (Napa, O'Reilly's, and Walmart )...Look at sig to get an idea on which ones I need...

Thanks...I know this is done so many times...my car (motor wise) is pretty much stock...I just got some better breathing bolton's...cold air, 65 MAF and TB, headers, offroad h, and catback....

Autolite 25's, maby 24's because they are a little colder. Just regular copper based plugs are best, none of this platnum crap.

Stock Motorcrafts. If you can't get them, stock replacement Autolites are good too. Like 90mustangGT said, don't bother with platinums, they aren't all they're cracked up to be. I've seen cars that won't even run on them, put the stock plugs back and everything is fine. If you don't think you have enough spark, upgrade the coil, wires, or ignition- but stay with the stock plugs.

i dont care what everyone says, but ive been running splitfires with the gap at 55, and they work like a charm, id say get splitfires, make ur car run lots better.

Bosch Platinum +4s....a little expensive but will last a hell of lot longer than your stock replacement plugs....you definantely know where the extra moneys goin with those

All you guys with your multi-prong plugs, consider this:

Electricity runs with the least path of resistance, which mean it doesnt matter if you have 1 or 10 prongs on your plug, it's going to flow through the 1 and only 1 prong that has the least path of resistance, which means all the others arent doing jack squat. Copper also conducts electricity more efficiently than platinum, so while the plat's might last you a bit longer, it's not really worth the price or the performance loss, and lets face it...changing the plugs in a Mustang isnt exactly hard or anything...

BTW, i'm not just talkin out my rear here either, 'cause i used to be a diehard Bosch Platinum fan myself, but after breaking down and having to buy those dreaded stock replacement plugs because i was on a tight budget, my car ran smoother and responded better than it ever had...which at least to me proved my point.

Go there and check!!! Your not gonna get an extra 100HP from exotic plugs.Just go for the factory replacement plugs,your motor loves them.Especially if it is stock,with stock heads!

85_SS_302_Coupe- my thoughts exactly, and from experience. We saw this at the shop all the time, and not just with Mustangs or even Fords- all cars. Every once in a huge while one came in that actually seemed ok or a freak that may have been a bit better, but most of them ran worse, caused problems, or just plain didn't run on them at all. Special expensive plugs= big gimmic, any garage who knows their $#i+ will tell you so. We had IATN bulletins on them all the time, Splitfires, Plat2's,4's, all of them. Whatever the OEM ones were, their better. That's not me being cheap or blowing smoke, it's my ASE Master Tech (Ford Gold) with decades as a pro talking.

Stangbear427 is right on the money. Any of those +4 or +2 plugs are all a gimmik. If you say they aren't then you are a victim of flashy advertisment and bull Sh**. It's plain and simple....use either Autolite or Motorcraft. They are both the same as Autolite is the manufacturer for Motorcraft plugs. Stay away from anything else especially NGK or Champion. Bosch is alright, but expensive for nothing.

I just put Autolite Platinums on my car and they did a HUGE difference, the car is sooo smooth at idle and revs up alot quicker. Gottem for 30 bucks at my local parts store.

hey guys, I want new plugs too. I went to wallymart and they have two different autolite plugs for the 5.0 motor. One had a (D) next to it and the other had a (T) next to it. So which one is for me?

I have a stock 95 gt vert. So which one should I get, they also had the gaps on there, for the (D) I think it was .044 and for (T) it was .055. Does this sound right?

If you tossed those $30 platniums in the trash and put some $8 copper plugs in, it would run even better.

Let's remember one thing here. The 5.0 ignition was designed for a stock copper plug. The coil, wires, you name it centered around a copper electrode. Copper as we all know it is a better conductor of electricty. And as mentioned before, the multiprog plugs are a gimmich becase electricity take 1 path. I always get a chuckle out of the bosch and splitfire posters in autozone showing 2 or 4 sparks. That doesn't happen. You get ONE SPARK and the other electrodes just sheild the air/fuel from the mixture.

THE ONLY BENEFIT of platnium plugs is the fact that you can go 50K miles without changing it. That's it. There is no performance reason. Platnium is hard so it will not wear as fast as a copper plug.

Plug gap for the 86-93 5.0 is 0.052-0.056. A lot of reference books list it as 0.045 but this is wrong.

Well what would be better...Autolite 24's or Autolite 25's...what is the difference...I have the 25's but can trade them in Friday for the 24's while I'm in town...

Keep the 25's. The 24's are a heat range colder. You do not need a heat range colder. Stay with what you have.
