Quick question about removing the throttle body..

I want to remove the throttle body so I can polish the exterior of it, and then I'll be putting it back on. I'm guessing there's a gasket between the throttle body and the intake manifold. Will that gasket still be useable or will I have to throw it away and get a new one?

hard to say....it could be reusable, may not be...mine was when i took it off, but replaced it anyways, just to be safe

DO NOT go into a parts store and ask for a 94/95 GT throttle body gasket... You'll get the wrong one. I believe you need to ask for a Thunderbir(?) TB gasket. Either that or get a sheet of gasket material and make your own.

Mine wasnt good when I took mine off. If you go to the local parts store they will probably try to give you a gasket from a 93 and older 5.0. I'm sure 1105 is right, if you ask for the gasket from a 5 Liter Thunderbird, you should get the right one, since they use basically the same intake.

Alright. I'm doing this without a manual or anything. Do I have to torque the bolts when I put it back on or just make them tight?

Mine was still good, even at 100K miles. I agree - the auto parts stores consistently did not give me the right gasket when I did change the TB. I ended up just going to Ford and getting the right one.

It should definitely be on there! My stock TB gasket was stuck on the upper intake and looked like it was almost part of the aluminum. Look closely. If it's NOT there ... go out and get one. It may solve some of those "my car just doesn't seem to be running right" kinda problems.

Oh ... I am sure there is some kinda torque specs on the TB bolts, I just made mine tight, without going too crazy - I'd say about 20 Ft/Lbs. or so.

According to Haynes, it should be 12-18Ft/Lbs
