I've owned nothing but 5.0's until now. Now, my 5.0's I let warm atleast 5 minutes if it's under 40*F, but now I bought a '99.

How long should I let it warm up, it's a '99 35TH Anniversary GT, very healthy. Right now it's about 20-30*F when i'm starting it in the morning, how long before I start pulling out of the garage? Also, once I do hit the road, I dont go over 2200 rpm until I see it's like half warmed up. ALso I use ProLong in all my cars.

Thanks in advance, sorry it's a quick question but I searched and didnt find anything, I just wanna know from guys that own the same engine, what ya'll do.

although i didn't know weather got colder than 40*




and i'd stop with the prolong thing. snake oil, for the most part, is a waste of money imo

I let it run about enough time to put my seatbelt on and go. I take it easy until the needle moves into the Normal range for the coolant temp. Done that all winter, even the days when it was below 0*.

I hit the remote start then have a cup of coffee and gather my things so @ 15 mins when its 20 degrees...when its 45 degrees or warmer i only let it go 5 mins or so.

I wait until my Mach drops down to it's normal idle, then hit the road. That is all of about 30 seconds at most. But also, it normally does'nt ever get below 30 here very much.

About 15 seconds but it doesn't get too cold too often here. I don't get on it though until it warms up to normal range. I figure that 5W-20 is thin enough to get where it needs to be within a couple of seconds anyway.

just let it warm up untill the idle drops, then drive easy untill the engine reaches normal temp.

I've just heard it's bad to not let it warm up a few minutes. But, that was advice for the 5.0's. My 99 has aluminum so I guess it's better with this.

Why would it even matter, I mean I know it takes a few...seconds to get oil up top and such but, I dunno, I've heard that it's bad to have the bottom end hot as hell and the top cold still, if you just fire it up and go start driving....

I let it warm to about 100*F or so I guess, but I dont beat on it until full temperature, but....I really "WANT" to beat on it when it's cold, the power is sick. It seems 50 more hp when it's cold.....werd, all my 5.0's are the same way.

Depends on my mood. If it's really cold I'll go outside and start it and walk inside, get my stuff then take off. It usually doesn't warm up completely until I'm halfway through my 7 mile trip down my road. General rule of thumb is don't let it idle because it's a waste of fuel. Just get in and go but take it easy on her.

Gotta love the cooler denser air
But like everyone else has said, not a problem driving it without letting it "warm up", just be kind until she does.
