I am going to be moving up that way later on this year and was wondering were a good area to move would be. I'm not all that familiar with the areas but I can get around and kinda know which are which. I used to live in Spokane when I was in the military and traveled over there as much as I could. I have since then landed a job down in So. Cal. but hate it here. So I am going to make my way back up that way but on the Seattle side this time. Any help in pointing me in the right direction would help. Thanks.....

Hey man, I'm in the Air Force up here and I live in Des Moines (by Sea-Tac Airport). It just depends on where you get a job as where you should move to. Let me know where your job is because the commute is going to be the deciding factor.

I would suggest Bellevue, Redmond and Kirkland for the east side of Seattle, Edmonds, Mukilteo and Mill Creek on the Seattle side. But you will pay more usually for these areas because they are typically nicer. Bothell, Kenmore, Lynwood, South Everett would be alittle cheaper but still not horrible.

Thanks for the help guys. The traffic doesn't bother me much, and it's not much worse then here, 45 min. to go 5 blocks. I was just wondering were the good areas are that are affordable. Also I was just wondering how big the mustang community is up there? Clubs, get togethers and so on.....

The scene up here is rather good, the only problem is basically our lack of really nice days, other then the summertime so until about April/May (when the tracks open) much doesn't happen. Atleast for the Seattle area guys. The Oregon peeps is alittle different. But we also host one of the biggest Mustang shows/event in the entire country so that's something to say. But I'm sure there will be enough things going on, I just wouldn't count on things to be like California.

It all depends on where you are working, and hoe far you want to commute. I live in Seattle about 4 miles north of downtown around Green Lake which is nice.

I know about the pony roundup I took second in modified with my 90 a couple of years back. I hope to make it again this year with my street car and beat up on the dyno. That brings up another question, it sounds like alot of people up there are into the twisty's are there any mustang guys that like to hang out at the drag strip?

Another vote for Greenlake.
I live a couple of blocks from Greenlake. The only downside is that I don't have a garage now .
This place is a blast.

Yes, there are drag racers on this site and in this area. Be aware of the two quite distinct groups posting on this site, one in the Portland area and one group in the Seattle area. These groups are 3 hours apart and there is little interaction. Each group has its own collective personality and orientation.

I recommend racing on the Ford Drag Team as part of the Car Club Challenge. You'll meet a bunch of people with similar interests. They're a supportive group that has grown in the past couple years with the addition of many younger guys. Two tracks exist in the area providing many options during the summer. One track actually opens in February, but racing is likely to be rained-out in that month and during March. By May, we actually have less rain than most other places, but during the winter and early spring, it is very drizzly.

My wife and I live at the top of Magnolia Hill, which is the hill immediately northwest of downtown, about five minutes from downtown. We love it up here. The neighborhood is quiet and the view is stunning; we're right across from a park, we can see boats in the Ballard Locks out one window and the city out another. In the mornings you can smell the ocean, and the sunrises are spectacular (when the sun comes up -- not for over a month, now ) Traffic isn't that bad for us, but then my wife works a mile away (on Queen Anne Hill), and I work an early shift in Issaquah so I hit very little traffic. You can get into a 1-bedroom apartment/condo over here for $700 a month or about $150K if you're looking to buy. Houses in this neighborhood run $500K and up.

I also like Shoreline, for the same reasons as Magnolia (minus the short commute to downtown), and it's cheaper. Edmonds is cute in that small-town-by-the-sea way, and not too pricey -- at least, not for the Northwest.

Bad places to live: South Seattle, the Rainier Valley (crime) ; Lynnwood or anywhere north of Lynnwood (generic strip-mall-ville all the way through Everett, kinda defeats the purpose of living in Seattle, IMO.)

The only thing I don't like about living up here is living in a condo and not having a garage.

Professional driver on closed course. Your mileage may vary.

Bottom line is..how much can YOU afford. That will start the process for where you are working compared to the commute.
