Quick question on lifters for a 351 non roller from factory....

I was wondering, Could you just use comp cam lifters and buy some linked bars they sell for them to try to keep the price down below crane's $400 conversion linked bar lifters when converting the block to a roller?

Is the only difference in the design with the conversion lifters from Crane the actual linked bar?
