alright, i just put in all the main bearings and torqued the main caps to spec. i got .002-.003 for all the clearances. is this fine or is this too much clearance? im trying to do a cheap rebuild with just bearings and rings in this motor. the motor is in good shape and all the bearings looked decent when they came out. thanks for any help

From Ford specs.
Desired .0004-.0015
Allowed .0004-.0021

Also make sure you are using the plastigauge correctly. It is commonly put directly in the center of the jounal when atually it should be placed in between center and cap connection point. Hope this helps. :flag:

Not a big faa of plastigage (could never get consistent readings twice in a row). For the crank mains I do the spin test. (little oil on the bearings torqued to spec, make sure it spins over at least twice aft pulling by the throws hard. Makes absolutely no sense typed up, but it shows itself on the motor.
